In 1957, when Interstate 95 was completed through Palm Beach County and nearby counties, Longwood became one of its six border communities; it remained so until 1991 when it lost its status as an incorporated municipality. As with most small towns inFlorida during this time period, Longwood experienced significant growth due to tourism opportunities brought about by rising gas prices and increasing international travel within and outside of Florida. With World War II ending in 1945 and increasingly commercial aviation becoming prevalent in south Florida thanks to Air Force Base Fenton's opening in 1947 new development opportunities arose for businesses wishing to locate within walking distance of Ft Walton Beach Airport or just minutes away from Miami International Airport using Interstate 95 corridors which were then newly designated for expressway traffic only! A diverse mix including agriculture (livestock), manufacturing (knives), retail services (motorcycles), medical care (dental work), warehousing/transportation services etc., characterized many local companies that thrived during this time especially around mile marker 6 on I-95 near Krome Boulevard which served as a major transportation artery for both locals who voted into incorporation along with trucking companies such as Pritchett Truck Lines Incorporated operating out of their foreclosed dealership located adjacent to Krome Boulevard that transported goods side-by-side with tractor trailers manufactured by General Motors Assembly plants throughout southern Central Florida during this era

Longwood is a small town located in Polk County, Florida. The population was 4,872 at the 2000 census. The town was founded in 1881 by James Long and his wife, Sarah. The Longwood community first sprang up around a sawmill that James Long had built on the banks of the Okeechobee River. By 1885, the mill had closed down, but James and Sarah continued to operate it as a farmstead until their death in 1916. After becoming a federal enclave within Miami-Dade County, Longwood gradually began to thrive as a resort town with its own post office (it opened on October 1, 1927) and library (opened in 1928). In 1949, when President Harry S Truman visited Cuba during his final months in office, he stayed at Bayfront Park near Tallahassee while campaigning for re-election; this event is generally considered to be the beginning of Miami's " Cold War." In recent years there have been efforts to revive longwood as an active community characterized by shopping malls and high schools which offer undergraduate education opportunities. However, most residents continue to rely heavily upon tourism which continues to bring much economic activity into the town despite some challenges such as rising energy costs and competition from more developed areas of central Florida
