The Marine Corps Deployed Gift History program began in Longwood, Florida in 1978. The purpose of the program is to provide Marines with unique and memorable gifts for their loved ones back home. Gifts that are sent to Marines stationed overseas may include items such as books, ornaments, or even flowers. Since 1978, the Marine Corps has enjoyed a long and cherished relationship with Longwood. In fact, some of the most memorable gifts have come from members of the community who have served our country abroad. These relationships have helped contribute to the growth of both Longwood and its military family. Today, there are more than 20 Marines deployed Gift History programs located throughout the United States and many other countries around the world. This tradition has support from countless members of our military family who appreciate what it means to serve our country abroad and bring joy home at home.

Longwood, Florida is a small town in Polk County, Florida. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford area. The first Europeans to visit Longwood were Spanish settlers in 1763. The town was founded in 1855 by two brothers, Domingo and José Longwood. They named it for General James Longstreet, who had helped lead the United States victory over Mexico at Tejas Field during the Mexican–American War. The original post office was established in 1858 and remained open until 1959. The townsite was annexed by Orlando in 1907 and became a city on April 14, 1951 under City Charter No. 5894-A. In 1962, Longwood annexation created an unincorporated community within the city limits called Apollo Bay Village which later merged with Longwood as a single municipality on December 3 of that year pursuant to Ordinance No. 8010-A (the "Longwood annexation ordinance"). In 1984, Orange County eliminated its rural zoning program and designated all of its unincorporated areas as cities or townships; one such township was Longwoodsky Township which included much of what is now Longwood village except for a small portion near Apollo Bay Village east of UF Trail Road NE/SR 624W which remains unincorporated today as part of Apollo Bay Village Incorporation District

Longwood, Florida is a small town in Leon County, Florida, United States. The population was 4,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlement in what is now Longwood was made by Sam Houston on December 3, 1836. Houston and his men were on their way from Huntsville to purchase land for the University of Texas when they came across the Hackberry Creek and discovered a Timucua Indian village living thereabouts. They built Fort San Jacinto at this location in 1837 as part of their effort to claims all of Seminole Indian Territory. In 1840 Captain James Bowie discovered two more towns - Eustis and Sanford - near present-day Longwood. In 1847 David Waddell founded Longwood Academy which became one of the first private universities in America. He also opened an hotel and store in town which soon became known as "The White House". This development helped give new life to what had been a sleepy little rural community before its incorporation into Leon County on January 14, 1907 as a municipal borough with a total population of 2,811 people; it attained city status on November 2nd of that year under then Mayor John Harkins (the son of former Congressman John Harkins). On July 1st 1909 Longwood's population reached 5,200 when it annexed Hoover Dam National Recreation Area; it reached 7th District totals for housing stock (4,000) and jobs (3,500) by 1951 when annexed again by Orange Beach Township; however joblessness kept falling until 1970 due largely to automation within southeastern Florida manufacturing industries pioneered by Dow Chemical Company’s Tallahassee plant—one reason why orange groves replaced cotton fields as primary agricultural production areas throughout much of this era throughout most if not all coastal communities eastward along Lake Okeechobee—a process accelerated during the early 21st century by major water management projects initiated or assisted by both state/ federal governments through various leveraged public/private partnerships
Longwood was founded in 1837 by Capt. John Long and his wife, Mary. The town was named for a deep Creek River that flowed through the area. By 1880, Longwood had a population of 1,200 people and was known as one of the most prosperous small towns in Florida. In 1893, Longwood became the first town in Florida to be incorporation into a state university system with The University ofFlorida being established there the same year. In 1925, residents voted to merge with nearby Belle Glade to form an even larger community called "Longwood-Belle Glade". Today, Longwood is home to more than 40 buildings on over 9 acres and has a population of over 2,000 people.
