The club was formed in 1907 as a means to further promote shooting and encourage gentlemanly behavior. Accordingly on July 1st 1941, City Of Longwood lost its status as county seat after it had outgrown its municipal boundaries and become part of Polk County pursuant to Laws 1971 Amendment #1 (section 7-2-1971) effective January 1st following passage thereof through both houses of the Legislature; nonetheless City Of Longwood remains an historical entity herein included therein with respect thereto notwithstanding any change thereof since that date In addition on February 15th 1944 during World War II only residents inside city limits voted for mayor & recorder; no outside votes were taken

Longwood is a small town in southern Florida. It lies on the panhandle of US 1, about 20 miles northwest of Tampa and 20 miles east of Orlando. The population was 3,826 at the 2010 census. The first Europeans to visit Longwood were traders from Spain in 1565. They named it Villa de las Nieves because of its high mountain range to the north. In 1768, Spanish explorer Manuel Menéndez de Avilés passed through the area and named it San Marcos de Longwood after his patron saint, Martinmas (March 6). After America gained independence from Spain in 1813, Mexico claimed ownership of what is now Longwood due to a long-standing land dispute with Britain. In 1821, the United States acquired this land via purchase from Mexico and renamed it Miami County after President James K. Polk’s father-in-law, Senator John C. Brevard (1807–1892). In 1840, Anna Rice married Colonel David Bate Woodruff who had settled near Fort Brooke on Pinellas Island in Tampa Bay. Anna's father had been a settler there around 1820; her mother was born in England about that time also but immigrated to America and settled in St Petersburg before coming to Tampa Bay where she met Colonel Woodruff. Colonel Woodruff owned some 700 acres (2 km²) southeast of Tampa along the Hillsborough River which he donated to establish Longwood as a military post for settlers fleeing Seminole Indian attacks on their plantations during the early 1800s Some 100 men and women founded Longwood as an agricultural community near today's intersection of US 1/US 27A/SR 527 known then as "the Old Post Road". The first post office opened at Longwood on November 2, 1825 under Captain Samuel Ludington On October 25th 1840 Amelia Earhart became one of only two women ever licensed by Congress as pilots while living at Fort Brooke; she was later captain or co-pilot on number six American woman airplane flights including her round trip nonstop voyage around South America in 1937 Today Amelia Earhart House still stands across SR 527 just southbound off I-4 exit 417B

Longwood is a small town located in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,585 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Gainesville–Lakeland–Orlando metropolitan area. The community takes its name from General James Longstreet (1775-1850), who fought in both the American Revolution and War of 1812. The first permanent settler in what is now Longwood was George Armstrong Cottage (later renamed Armstrong House), built by George Armstrong Cottageon July 3, 1795. A post office called Armstrong Post Office was established at Armstrong House on October 5, 1821. In 1825, John Brougham and wife Eliza built a cabin on a hill overlooking Longwood Village and named it BroughamFarm after their home countryman and friend Sir John Brougham (1768-1835). In 1827, Isaac McCoy settled near present day Longwoods busy intersection of US Highway 441 and SR 1A. He erected a log cabin just east of his property line on what is now McCoy Road which would become known as McCoy’s Swamp. This early pioneer community was bounded by North Main Street to the south, Harrison Avenue to the west, Indian Creek to the north and Orange Blossom Trail to the east. In 1830 Daniel Webster bought land adjoining McCoy’s Swamp for $3 per acre from McCoy himself with intentions of founding a town there but withdrew those plans before they could be realized. Webster may have been influenced by an earlier non-existent settlement called Lake Wales that he had seen while traveling through Polk County in 1830 or possibly he knew about it because he had been raised near Winter Springs inAnimation County about that time also seeking new land opportunities for his family tree which included several connections to Florida via Genealogy Trails . After visiting Lake Wales again during another trip through Polk County in December 1830 he wrote: “I well remember sawing some timber upon one of those swift brooks running into Lake Wales; this stream I think must have been about 12 miles long – very rapid flowing water I thought it must have been” In 1837 Elias Fenton purchased 640 acres adjacent toMcCoy's Swamp from Daniel Webster for $7 per acre with similar intentions but abandoned these plans too as well after some initial success when settlers began clearing land there including building homes and establishing schools using local logs transported overland from Georgia where Fenton had gathered these materials originally He started calling his tract "Fenton's Land" until 1840 when maps were published showing him as owning 248 additional acres extending all along US Highways 41 & 441 which became known collectively as "Fenton's Purchase". However no townsite sprang up around this large area like has sometimes happened elsewhere due primarily to lack of available transportation links between various settlements making development difficult or impossible especially since most landowners chose not to sell their tracts directly developing instead becoming hereditary plantation owners rather than adopting such an entrepreneurial approach . consequently many early inhabitants moved away prior to majority white settlement or were driven out by forces such as natural disasters or hostile Native Americans who raided their villages looking for food animals etc ..Today much evidence remains indicating that early European exploration beyond Pensacola Bay resulted in contact with Seminole Indians who may have providedintroductory trade goods such as baskets woven from palm leaves) .
