The Marines have been deployed in support of United States forces around the world for over sixty years. Deployments have included both combat and support roles. In Lynn Haven, Florida, Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune is home to the 5th Marine Regiment which has a history dating back to World War II. The regiment was first activated in 1944 and served throughout the war including deployments to Okinawa and Japan. After the war, the regiment was reformed and based at Camp Lejeune where they continue their service today. In 2017, 5th Marine Regiment members took part in Operation Neptune’s Spear which was an amphibious assault against ISIS-affiliated forces in Syria. The event saw heavy fighting with many Marines sustaining injuries during the invasion. Following Operation Neptune’s Spear, 5th Marine Regiment members participated in beach landing operations in Libya where they liberated two villages from ISIS control. These were only a few examples of how well prepared and equipped the Marines are for any situation that might arise. Despite their long history of deployment, it is still striking to see just how diverse Marine Corps units can become when called into action. This diversity comes from both their training methods as well as their equipment preferences which often includes new technologies that are not found on other militaries. For example, marines using cutting edge helmet technologies that allow them to communicate with other units while on duty or using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) for reconnaissance purposes. Lynn Haven is a small town located in the Miami-Dade County region of Florida. It is home to over 6,000 residents and has a population density of just under 50 people per square mile. The name Lynn Haven was given to the community by its founder, Mr. Howard Lynch. The name comes from two places in Massachusetts - Lynn and Haven - which are both villages with a large body of water between them. In 1922, Mr. Lynch moved his family to Lynn Haven after purchasing land there from Mrs. Anna Ladd Howe of Pawtucket, Rhode Island. By 1924, less than one year after its founding, Lynn Haven had become an incorporated municipality with 9 full-time resident pastors serving as officers including treasurer/mayor/wardens as well as clerk/treasurer/etc., while also maintaining day care and telephone service for the entire community plus lighted policing services Provided by three volunteer fire companies which member households attended until 1956 when all volunteer fire companies were merged into one department under one Commanding Officer Fire Department 1st Lt.-Col./Capt.) Dick Raymond who served until his retirement in 1995 then resigned effective upon becoming Mayor Dolph Wickerham’s Assistant City Manager). In 1951, following annexation by Miami-Dade County from Monroe County, new housing developments began being developed throughout much of Englewood (including portions of today’s Lynn Haven) with most citizens living on or near airport Boulevard or adjoining industrial areas providing transportation access for jobs within commuting distance (and other amenities such as grocery stores etc.). Well known businessmen such Don Shanks who owned many businesses along Airport Boulevard included real estate developers Julius Kappeler Sr., James Guggenheim Jr., Harry Warburg (ownership passed through through several generations), Milton Siegelberger (founder & CEO CEI Electric Utilities) among others; banks include First National BankSouth Beach Branch #1 opened in 1951 followed by Manufacturers Trust bank building across Airport Boulevard soon thereafter followed by HSBC bank building on Northwest corner Parkway built in 1957; Shawmut chemical company became active processing aluminum plants nearby shortly afterwards followed by construction activity at Brown Central plant housing Sunoco gas stations beginning approximately 1958 continuing until present day Lynn Haven experienced rapid growth during this time leading to increased development pressures including high input costs associated with new schools, sewers and infrastructure needs resulting insometimes extraordinary prices for goods sold within walking distance or even within drivingdistanceofthedowntown Lynnyhaven area today! The name Lynn Haven comes from the word "haven" which means place to refuge or rest. At first it was simply an agricultural community with a few homes and barns. In 1925, the village had just over 100 residents when it annexed the adjacent land of Starke for $3 per acre. This led to its nickname of "The Annexation Capital of Florida". The annexation made Lynn Haven one of the most populous communities in Duval County by 1930. By then, it had built numerous public buildings including a school and post office. Lynn Haven experienced significant growth during World War II because so many local businesses provided materials and services to war-related industries such as shipbuilding and aircraft manufacturing. However, due to political instability in Duval County after the war ended, Lynn Haven slowly lost its status as an important community until the early 21st century when it regained some prominence through various initiatives such as new housing development and designation as a Heritage Village by the state government in recognition of its history and culture
