As tourism grew throughout Central Florida during the late 1960s and early 1970s, Lynn Haven began to experience rapid growth as well; by 1990 its population had reached 10,000 people. In 2000, Hurricane Floyd caused extensive damage to both herringshell fisheries that produce seafood for local restaurants and tourists alike; however, due to efforts by local fisherman and businesses recovery began almost immediately with much more fishing than before hurricane hit-a feat not typically seen during natural disasters such as hurricanes or earthquakes
