The United States Air Force (USAF) is one of the most popular military services in the world. It has a rich history that can be traced back to World War I. The USAF was formed on September 18, 1947 as an arm of the U.S. Department of War, and it began its operations as an independent force within the United States Army. In 1949, the USAF was redesignated as the USAF and became a single service with two headquarters: HeadquartersAir Force (HQA) at Maxwell AFB, Alabama; and Headquarters Allied Forces Europe (HQAE) at Rennes-le-Château, France. HQA was responsible for all operational activities from European airspace while HQAE oversaw strategic airlift missions and air defense responsibilities in NATO member countries. On July 16, 1957, following the death of General Curtis LeMay, then-chief of USAAF Command and Mission Planning Division (CMD), HQA activated Operation Overlord which involved RAF squadrons flying combat sorties over Germany to support ground forces fighting against Nazi Germany’sBeer Hall Putsch attempt and subsequent Occupation by American forces during World War II. The first RAF squadron to fly combat over Germany was No. 709 Squadron ‘Galloway’ flown by Wing Commander Arthur Coningham from Great Yarmouth UK on October 15th 1944 – Operation Neptune’s Spear! After years of planning and preparations by both commandos and their RAF allies this momentous event came about when German dictator Adolf Hitler committed suicide in 1945 without having been able to carry out his plan to create a second Greater Reich! Maitland is a town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,697 at the 2010 census. Maitland was founded on February 14, 1881 by Hemanus J. Green and James A. In 1838, Maitland became the first incorporated town in Florida. It continued to grow through the early 1900s, thanks to new industrialization and agricultural development. By 1920, Maitland had a population of over 100,000 people and was one of the larger towns in Florida. In recent years, however, Maitland has experienced several rounds of economic decline and is now an economically struggling small town with limited access to services.
