Maitland is a small town located in Miami-Dade County, Florida, on the north side of the county. The population was 3,769 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greater Miami metropolitan area. The post office was established in 1892, and changed its name to Maitland in 1907. The name may be derived from "mike" which is an initialism for "michigan," or "aestivalia" which means agricultural land in Greek. Residents have various theories about what originated the town's name; one theory suggests that it comes from an early settler's daughter's maiden name, MAITLAND (meaning 'magenta'). Another theory suggests that Maitland derives from Mount D'Urbain, named for François de laRoche Marquis de Lafayette who fought with British during the American Revolution and later became a senator from Louisiana. According to the 2010 census, Maitland has a total area of , of which (or 99%) is land and (or 1%) is water. Nearby municipalities are Hollywood Park to the east and Kendall Lakes to the west; both are incorporated into Maitland as local jurisdictions with their own governments but share some basic services such as police and fire protection provided by Maitland Utilities Authority. Maitland has several parks including: Maple Grove Park (named after Maple Grove Township), Crestwood Park near Interstate 95 exit 131A/SR 528B/ US 27 south of town on State Road A1A (the old route between Ft Lauderdale and Lake Worth), Tryon Hills Golf Course off US 27 just outside town limits and Pinecrest Beach State Beach off SR 528B just inside town limits - all within walking distance of each other. In addition there are two park ranches: Timberline Ranch & Valley Ranch - both leased by city officials for use by citizens only with no professional staff assigned to them while also providing picnicking facilities for residents nearby including access to beautiful hiking trails running through woodlands indigenous to these areas as well as tennis courts equipped with artificial light rain showers! There are also several playgrounds located throughouttown including Frontier Field at Tryon Hills golf course next door to Pioneer Cabin Country Club where children can play catch with ballistichene attached so they don't hit their heads on posts! Some of the earliest gifts given by people in America were money and books. In 1933, Rear Admiral John W. Hodges donated an art camera for use by the Coast Guard Reserve unit at Point Defiance, Washington. This was followed by a donation of a fishing net in 1934 which became operational as part of the first Coast Guard buoy patrol off Long Island, New York on May 5th, 1935. In 1937, Rear Admiral J.D. Macready gave a set of radios to be used by all coast guard officers and men on duty along with some clothes and equipment. These radios would become instrumental in providing communications between stations and commanders during World War II. In 1942, Rear Admiral Ernest J Moore gifted two L-3A Type I amphibious tanks (the first American tanks equipped with armor) to The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary for service on Long Island Sound as part of Operation Neptune’s SpearOperation Husky). This was followed by a donation from Vice President Harry S Truman in 1945 when he called upon Congress for $5 million towards coastal defense measures following Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbor Day.(This amount would grow to $30 million within 10 years!) During the Vietnam War many gifts were given including uniforms and tools such as mace guns and bayonets from United States Naval Forces South Pacific (USNFP) members who served aboard vessels operating along Vietnamese coasts or near Vietnamese ports northward into Laos and Cambodia proper! Many items remain unidentified today but these donations help support our Armed Forces personnel stationed abroad!

Maitland is a small town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 3,564 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Lake Buena Vista Metropolitan Statistical Area. Maitland has been inhabited by Native Americans for centuries. The first European to visit Maitland was Capt. John Smith on October 20, 1692, during his Expedition of North America. He named it "Muitland" after the Micmac chief Menominee (maiden). In 1763, Englishman James Cook discovered and mapped the Florida Keys and named them after Captain Maitland's native land: "Maitland Key" on Marathon Island and "Eagle island." The first white man to come through Maitland was George Meigs in 1819 when he erected a toll bridge over the Caloosahatchee River. A post office called Maitland was established in 1827; it changed its name to Sanford in 1837 because of Seminole Indian wars fought there that year. The town became a consolidated village under one government in 1861 with platted areas extending from Altamonte Springs south to Kissimmee then east to Sanford proper and north back to Altamonte Springs In 1909, some residents of Sanford petitioned for incorporation into Kissimmee because they found their taxes too high there while they could afford more living expenses here. In 1912, annexation proceedings were begun but failed due mainly to lack of support from within the community In 1915-16 following World War I an airfield nicknamed "Bald Eagle" sprang up just northeast of downtown providing local aviation with an operational base for training During World War II two Naval Air Station's were located at Maitlands edge: NAS Jacksonville (later Clearwater Naval Air Station) on latitude 27 degrees 33 minutes N and longitude 8 degrees 40 minutes W while NAS Tampa Bay (later Tampa Airport) lay inland across US 1 at 28 degrees 32 minutes N and 8 degrees 54 minutes W Militia units also used Bald Eagle Field during this time as did civilian pilots engaged in flying training airfields such as Ponce de Leon AFB outside St Petersburg FL On January 20th 1942 Eaker had his famous mission over Japan finding Rabaul Bypass which opened up route available forAAF bombers going targets deep inside Japan where they could bomb towns without risking getting near Home Ports In 1945 all military activity ended at NAS Jacksonville however NAS Tampa Bay continued active until it closed effective September 30th 1948 . All aircraft moved out except Marine One which remained until early 1949 when it crashed into Lake Okeechobee killing all four occupants

The town has been established by Maitland Creek natives since 1859. In that year, a group of men from Jax City decided to set up a trading post on what is now Maitland's southern border. A small community developed around the post and trade goods with Indians living along the creek. By 1862, there were also white people living in Maitland after settler James Waddell arrived from Georgia with his family. Waddell named his new community after himself – Maitland Creek Township – which suggests that he had some involvement in its early development. In 1874, phosphate mining began operations near Maitland and soon led to increased demand for lumber and other materials needed to build roads, schools, homes and other infrastructure. This increased business helped support local businesses and made Maitland an important center for economic development during this time period. After World War II ended in 1945, residents of nearby Clearwater started moving into Maitland as well, creating a bigger population graph for the town over time. As more people moved into town and built their lives here, job opportunities grew available for those who wanted them – making it one of Jacksonville's most undesirable neighborhoods during this time frame
