The Marine Corps Deployment Gift History Museum in Maitland, Florida preserves and exhibited gift items from the Marine Corps since it was established in 1958. The museum has a collection of over 1,000 individual items that include uniforms, decorations, tools, and other supplies used by Marines during their deployments. One of the earliest pieces to be donated to the museum was an American Flag Canopy which had been flown over Helmand Province in Afghanistan during Operation Neptune’s Spear on October 3rd 2009. The flag canopy was donated by Lance Corporal Bradley R. Freeman of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida who died as a result of Operation Neptune’s Spear on October 3rd 2009 while serving with Company A 2nd Battalion 5th Marines Regiment located in Anbar Province, Iraq. The flag canopy is one of only two such donations made to the Marine Corps Deployment Gift History Museum and is currently being stored at Fort Polk Arsenal after being placed into storage at Maitland Armory following its donation. On July 26th 2006 an American Flag Battle Banner was donated by Staff Sergeant Jeffrey Sievers from Arlington Heights, Illinois who served with Company D 4th Battalion 6th Marines Regiment stationed at MCB Camp Pendleton in California during Operation Iraqi Freedom I & II. The battle banner is one of only three such donations made to the Marine Corps Deployment Gift History Museum and is currently being stored at MCB Camp Pendleton after being placed into storage at Maitland Armory following its donation. An additional donation made to the museum on July 26th 2006 was a USMC Combat Unit Badge which had been worn by members of Company E 2nd Battalion 9th Marines Regiment stationed at FSB Khe Sanh in Vietnam duringOperation Enduring Freedom III-A (OIF III). Maitland, Florida is a small town located in Hillsborough County, Florida. The population was 9,726 at the 2000 census. Maitland is part of the Tampa-St Petersburg metropolitan area. Maitland was laid out in 1875 by J.J. Maitland and P.G. Sweetenheimer as a community on the eastern boundary of Hillsborough County, near what is now Clearwater Beach Boulevard and Bay Avenue. In 1898, it became an incorporated village with a post office and schoolhouse; its name changed to Maitland in 1912 when it absorbed part of Plantation Heights (later Stonington). Maitland has grown rapidly since its incorporation; by 1990, it had over 20 businesses and 2 schools serving grades K–12. It annexed much of Stuart in 1998; today Stuart is home to 3 public libraries plus 1 private library (the only one in Maitland). As an agricultural center for Hillsborough County and as a bedroom community for Tampa-St Petersburg, Maitland has been called "the most bedroom community on the East Coast." Agricultural production includes fruits and vegetables, cornucopia crops such as tomatoes and okra, hay bales for fertilizer and animal feed, poultry houses for raising chickens or pigs, cattle pastures (now used mostly for horses), soybeans ("Chrysanthemums"), sugar beets (now grown primarily for molasses), appleseed cultivation (mostly corn), citrus fruit trees (including oranges/lemons/tangerines), potatoes ("Hillsborough County's largest producer", now mainly field beans) - both fresh local produce from farmers' markets or processing plants nearby - nursery stock of many types of flowers including nearly 100 horticultural hardy annuals/shrubs & perennials; grapes incident to grape vines being hand irrigated using system water diverted from rivers that flow through Hillsborough into Tampa Bay

Maitland is a small town located in Hillsborough County, Florida. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. Maitland was founded in 1892 by A.F. Maitland and his family. It became a town on November 1, 1912 when it was incorporated as a city. In 1966, the city of Maitland merged with neighboring Stonington to form one municipality. On February 17, 1990, the town of Maitland annexed the unincorporated community of Belleair Beach which had a population of 514 people at the time. The annexation resulted in a total population for both municipalities of 2,711 people

In 1861, Maitland became a stop on the Underground Railroad. During World War II, Maitland played an important role as a munitions plant. After the war, the city struggled with crime and social recession until it underwent significant revitalization in the late 1990s and 2000s.
