Maitland is a small town in Broward County, Florida, United States. The population was 9,309 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit Maitland were Spanish explorers on their way from Havana to Pensacola in 1559. Captain José Martínez and his men explored the area in 1699-1600 while on their way south from Cuba to Fort Lauderdale. A group of British colonists established a plantation at Maitland in 1763 as part of the Treaty of Paris which ended the American Revolution. In 1836, General James K. Polk sent troops under Colonel John Pemberton through Maitland during the Seminole Wars because he knew that they would not be able to stop them if they attacked American forces stationed thereabouts. Colonel Pemberton's soldiers looted and burned many homes before finally withdrawing two days later without any major fights taking place; this gave rise to legend that "The Pittsboro Massacre" took place at Maitland when Ulysses S. Grant's army arrived there after being driven out by Native Seminoles on November 7,1836 near what is now Port Orange Naval Air Station

Maitland is a small town in Pinellas County, Florida, located on the Treasure Coast. The population was 1,898 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Tampa-St Petersburg-Clearwater Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European to set foot on what is now Maitland was Captain John Stroud in 1795 during his survey of the area for a new colony of British settlers. The town was named after Major General James Wilkinson who granted it to Colonel Thomas Maitland in 1827. Maitland originally consisted of just over 50 houses and was a farming community with citrus and sugar cane crops being the mainstays of its economy. However, as early as 1836, local merchants began to invest in steamboat development and by 1840, Maitland had become one of the most important steamboatports on the Treasure Coast. In 1851, residents voted to incorporate as a city and renamed it Maitland after their patron saint: Saint Maurice de la Réunion (the patron saint of French Canadians). By 1870, however, cotton milling had replaced agriculture as Maitland's primarystay and by 1895 its population had shrunk to 350 people from 1,500; nevertheless, it continued to be an important commercial center until World War II when it disappeared entirely from maps following America's entry into World War II. Maitland reemerged briefly during postwar prosperity when many Floridians left for greener pastures but quickly lost touch with its former self; nonetheless there are sporadic attempts each year by citizens group or private individuals to revive some aspects of local history including tours of old homes and demonstrations/presentations about local businesses that were once based in or related to MaitLAND during its heyday. Today much remains unchanged since post-war years despite having experienced only occasional revival efforts; this has been largely due to both Floridians' general unfamiliarity with MaitLAND culture which often precludes such initiatives from taking hold outside coastal cities that experienced similar economic surges post-World War II while larger areas like Tampa Bay recovered more rapidly than smaller communities near Interstate 75 did In spite of this lack thereof outside interest however there have been reports over recent years that someone is Arendelle Park resurrecting portions dating back before WWII while efforts are also being made by locals in unincorporated Pinellas County located northeast of town limits towards Fort Myers Beach (known locally as “The Necklace”) - latterly under control by descendants of another earlier settler - Nicholas Deering -to revive some aspects associated with nearby Myakka Head Light House fame
