The Margate Army Depot was first established in 1917 as the American Expeditionary Forces ammunition and equipment storage depot. It served as a base of operations for the First, Second and Third Allied Armies during World War II. The depot closed its doors in 1961, but it reopened in 1984 as the Margate Army Museum. As one of Florida's oldest cities with roots dating back over 100 years (!), Margate has made huge strides since becoming an official city within Florida; this has included investments such as creating new parks (2011), expanding education opportunities within our community through partnerships with local schools (2013) and creating jobs through initiatives such as job creation zone projects (2015). With so much progress being made by our city over these past few decades we can only imagine what lies ahead for us!

The Margate Volunteer Infantry was an infantry regiment that served in the United States Army during World War I. It was formed on December 12, 1914 from remnants of the disbanded Florida Infantry Regiment. The regiment was redesignated as the Margate Volunteer Cavalry on February 3, 1917 and then redesignated as the Margate Light Horse on November 5, 1918.
Margate, Florida is a city located on the Atlantic Coast of Florida. The population was 5,829 at the 2010 census. It is part of Palm Beach County. In 1821, Captain John Stephenson and his men explored what is now Margate and named it because they saw a white woman walking past their ship while they were anchored in Jacksonville Harbor. He built a wharf here and began to trade with the local Indians. By 1826, he had erected a small brick building that served as his office. In 1828, he became the first person to charter an American packet ship from this location and carried cargo between Jacksonville and St. Augustine until 1830 when he moved his business ashore to build a larger warehouse on Pine Street west of downtown Margate. This new business soon became one of the most important in town because it handled both passenger traffic and cargo for many local businesses including Jardine & Co., Barker's Gin Company, Wm Jarratt's Tobacco Warehouse (later known as Wm. Biddle), Fidelity Marine Store (now known as Joe's Place) and several other grocery stores before eventually becoming its own company in 1854 which later became Mayfair Shipbuilding & Drydock Company Ltd.. In 1917-18, during World War I, Margate was home to two large naval yards that produced warships for America: USS "LST" 6414(G)-the first U S Navy warship ever built outside of Downey California-and USS "USS" TX-27(A)-the last destroyer type submarine commissioned by the United States Navy before its destruction by Japan in 1945 after serving tours of duty off Okinawa Japan! The post-war years were not so good for Margate; however it did experience some economic growth thanks to tourism which has continued since then; making Margate one of the top tourist destinations in all of Florida! With over 1 million visitors annually there are plenty of opportunities for residents and tourists alike to enjoy all that this vibrant city has to offer!

Margate, Florida was an unincorporated community in Hillsborough County, Florida, United States. It was located on the east bank of the St. Johns River, opposite Tampa. Margate had a post office from 1892 to 1906 and a depot until 1914. The community developed around the Margate Lighthouse which first went up in 1892. The lighthouse is now part of the Margate Historical Museum. The community was named after Margate Point on the north side of Lake Erie where Captain James Cook landed his ships during his third voyage around the world in 1768–1769. Cook's landing at Margate Point near present-day downtown Tampa was significant because it marked one of only two times that Europeans had visited what is now Tampa Bay area; land south of Hillsborough County had been explored by Spanish and Native American missionaries for centuries before this visit by European settlers. In 1905, according to census figures available at that time, there were just 10 residents in Margate; by 1916 there were over 100 people living hereabouts due to timber industry growth and other economic development within Hillsborough County at that time. By 1920 there were over 300 people living hereabouts as a result of both industrial growth and migrations from other parts of Florida due to prohibitionismefeeling throughout much of America during this period prior to World War I). The population peaked at 400 in 1930 but dipped below 200 again by 1940 due primarily to World War IIluausterity policies following the war which caused many construction jobs to leave town en masse (although some new businesses did start up)). The population has since crept back above 200 with modest growth rates since then (although still below 1,000) due although not quite back into its pre-WWII levels until recent years when a big influx of Hispanic immigrants has brought renewed vitality and creativity back into town). A major reason for their strong economy has always been their location - right next door to Tampa with easy access to Interstate 75 and all forms of transportation including trains, buses and boats running through downtown Tampa making it easily accessible for businesses and residents alike who need or want easy access to everythingincluding shopping malls, universities, airports etc.). Margate is a town in Alachua County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,715 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Gainesville Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit Margate were Spanish explorers who traveled through the area in 1562 and 1565. The town was founded by colonists from Georgia in 1837 as a stop on their way to Pensacola. In 1838, Margate became part of the newly created Seminole Nation and its president (and later Chief Judge) Drayton Wright decided that the people of Margate should have their own jail and courthouse. In 1840, a wharf was built on the mouth of Gulf Stream andloading dock made it possible for settlers to transport goods overland to Tampa Bay via boat. In 1845, Captain John Soward of HMS "Thames" landed at Margate with his troop of Marines on Company B's ranch where he established Fort Walton Beach; this event marked an important change in Florida history as it demonstrated American presence in what would become known as Florida Territory. After some months ashore, Soward departed for Pensacola with his men on board HMS "Bounty". In 1850, Congress passed an act creating Alachua County which included parts of what are now Margate and Baldwin counties; however, only about half of Alachua County’s residents voted to join until 1840 when Territorial Governor Robert Lunsford endorsed annexation by granting special tax exemptions to those living within 100 miles (160 km) of Atlanta or Jacksonville carrying out his promise “to annex all bodies within our limits that shall desire it” Alachua County annexed most territory east of US Highway 1 by 1860 but not all residents followed suit including much farther east still including parts Now called Margate and Baldwin Counties
