Margate, Florida is a small town located on the east coast of Florida. The population was 3,514 at the 2010 census. It is part of Fort Pierce County and lies within the Miami-Dade County metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1892 by Englishmen who had been travelling through Key West and landed on what is now Margate Beach. They named their new settlement after the Mermaids Rock which stands just off Margate Pier. The original residents were mostly descendants of those who had come to Key West from England in the late 18th century. Today, Margate is a retirement community for middle-aged and older women with children living elsewhere in Fort Pierce or Miami-Dade Counties. It has an economy that depends largely on its Blue Flag golf course which is home to both public and private clubs as well as many restaurants and stores including two supermarkets, five banks, two movie theaters, four theme parks, one race track and one amusement park. The history of Margate can be traced back to 1892 when Englishmen discovered a beach at Mermaids Rock near Margate Pier while travelling through Key West. They named their new settlement after this location - Margate Beach meaning "the white shore." The early residents mainly consisted of those who had come over from England during the late 18th century; however, since it was a small town at that time there were few opportunities for them to make money so they spent most of their time enjoying life ashore. In 1923 the first post office opened in Margate when mail service between Key West and Fort Pierce began. At that time local citizens banded together to build a road connecting their communities making it possible for people to get around without having to go out into the ocean! In 1951 an insurance company moved into town from Jupiter under the name State Farm Insurance Company before being renamed Farmers Insurance Company in 1959! During these years much progress was made withintown but also some horrific events occurred such as On November 5th 1965 three men driving a carload of gasoline cans walked into Main Street full of people waiting for them outside a store after hours! One man died instantly while two others were injured; this event remains known as 'The Night Of The Living Dead.' Later that year another tragedy took place when thirteen students playing truant from school drowned when they lost control While swimming in Gulf Breeze Bay! This tragic event left much lasting damage as many families never felt safe returning home again following such tragedies like these! Over time more businesses came into town but unfortunately too often these companies didn't last very long due to competition from larger neighboring towns! In 1990 State Farm Insurance Company closed its doors permanently leavingMargate once again with only its own post office (which still opens) bringing much hope back into the community; howeverSadly this hope was short lived because less than 10 years later state law changed which no longer allowed insurance companies inside municipalities limits!! Consequently margaretians found themselves once again facing competition from larger neighboring towns although some managed to stay afloat even with fewer resources

Margate is a small town located in Lee County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,965 at the 2010 census. Margate is part of the Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town began as a ferry landing on the Intracoastal Waterway and became an agricultural center in the early 1800s. The first store in Margate opened in 1853 and the first post office was established in 1857. In 1895, railroad entrepreneur J.P. Morgan invested $10,000 to build a track from Key West to Margate and renamed it Jacksonville (the name of his previous business). By 1920, Margate had become one of Florida's largest towns with over 100 businesses and 2,500 residents. In 1939, during World War II, Japanese forces bombed Pearl Harbor and destroyed much of downtown Honolulu; this caused Hawaii to be placed under martial law which forbade any civilians from leaving their homes without prior permission from the military authorities. To prevent theft or abuse by Japanese troops stationed at Pearl Harbor Naval Station (later known asMarquette Island), local business owners petitioned Governor Manuel López de Guevara to declare a state of emergency that would allow them to open up their stores for customers only after proper evacuation procedures were underway On December 7th 1941 – two days after Japan attacked Pearl Harbor – President Franklin D Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066 ordering all citizens of Hawaii who possessed " goods or materials needed for war purposes" to leave immediately without giving any warning or opportunity for those not fortunate enough to leave through legal means to do so Aftermath: On December 8th 1941 approximately 1 ½ million people living on Oahu (over 60% of its population) were ordered either into hiding or removed by force if they could not flee within 72 hours . Over 3 million people were forced out due mainly to food shortages . Women and children were particularly targeted as many women held livestock making escape difficult . More than half a million people died during flight into exile . Many who did make it out perished in Japan during internment camps until 1945
The Margate shoreline was first settled by the Menendez family in 1838. The area now known as Margate was first called "Tallahassee" after the capital of Florida, Tallahassee. The town of Margate developed around the salt works and whaling station on the bay. In 1859, the state Legislature created a county out of parts of Levy and St Johns counties. The name for the new county was St Johns County, Florida. In 1906, a group of entrepreneurs bought land at Canaveral Key and built a small shipyard to produce steel ships for shipment to Europe. After World War I ended, America's second war began with Germany and Japan. America needed ships to supply its military efforts in Europe and Asia, so they bought or leased many German vessels used for harbor defense and troop transport. In 1922, American First National Bank opened its doors in Margate with $5 million in assets. It became one of the largest banks south of Chicago with branches throughout Florida. American First National Bank is still open today with over $200 million in assets! In 1942, when World War II began Americans had already been evacuating their families to safer havens overseas because they knew that Nazi Germany was planning on attacking America via Pearl Harbor - which would have destroyed our country completely! So before they could be massacred or deported en masse like so many others during those years (including my great-grandparents), some brave Americans decided to stay behind and fight! They formed what is now known as The Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Shooting heroes!
