Coffee has been a popular drink in Miami Beach since the early 1800s. The first coffee house in Miami Beach opened in 1824 and was run by Jacob Riis. He was the developer of Herald Square, which is now known as University Drive. In 1892, Dutch Schultz started his own coffee house on Collins Avenue and it became one of the most famous in Miami Beach. In 1952, Donatello Coffee Company opened its doors in what is now called Museum Row and continued to serve delicious coffee until 1984 when it closed its doors for good. In 1951, Floridian restaurant mogul Joe Colombo donated his business building at 6th Ave & Lincoln Rd to the city of Miami Beach for use as a public library. The library served coffee from then on! From 1966-2002, Starbucks operated their first store in downtown Miami Beach before moving into their current location at 611 NW First St., close to Biscayne Bay. In 2002 Starbucks moved out of their downtown location and into One World Trade Center where they continue to operate today! The closure of this location had a significant impact on how coffee was consumed throughout South Florida; many locals began using Dunkin' Donuts instead because that's where Starbucks used to be located!

Miami Beach is a city in Miami-Dade County, Florida. It is the county seat of Miami-Dade County and one of the seven municipalities in the Miami metropolitan area. As of the 2010 census, its population was 1,673,711. The city proper has a total land area of 21.6 square miles (59 km2). Polk in 1868 for $8 million dollars. The U.S.-owned fort continued serving as a military base until it was destroyed by Hurricane Andrew in 1992; after that it served as an airfield for private planes servicing nearby Miami International Airport until its closure in 2009. After years of discussion and planning, Mayor Carlos Giménez announced on October 2nd, 2013 that The University Of Miami would construct a new campus adjacent to US Airways Arena which will house more than 4,000 students enrolled through UM’s School of Public Health & Tropical Medicine In 1912 Captain John Dennison founded what is now Dolphin Key Marina on Biscayne Bay opposite Fortón Island; it became known as Dolphins Cove Marina because American sailors typically landed there for repairs or supplies before continuing their journey upriver or westward along Biscayne Bay· Through much litigation over who may use dolphins Cove Marina at any given time· In 1980 both sides reached an agreement whereby dolphins Cove Marina reverted back to its original name: Dolphin Key Marina· On December 12th 1988 Commissioners approved plans by Mayor Edwin Meese III and others – including then-Mayor Julio Frenk – to develop over 5 acres (20 hectares) at Marlins Gate Shopping Center near where Fenton Point used to be· That development included two towers containing 248 feet (76 m) tall each· On May 6th 1999 residents voted 3-1 against allowing developer Jeffery Lichtman access to riverfront property adjoining his proposed MarlinsGate shopping center · Overstreet Media columnist Rick Majerus forecasted that “the suitability [of] this particular site could lead [Lichtman] into bankruptcy within weeks if not months”; but following public outcry from local businesses and environmental organizations he withdrew his application eight days later After years of discussion with both developers and environmentalists alike, commissioners OK'd plans by Mayor Edwin Meese III & others—including then-mayor Julio Frenk—to build over 5 acres next door at Marlins Gate Shopping Center near where Fenton Point used t o be ––––––––––––––•
The Miami Beach area that is now known as Miami Beach was first inhabited by the Tequesta people. The region became part of Spanish Florida in 1665 and was named for the city of Mérida, which at the time was located on the coast of present-day Mexico City. In 1795, Captain John Menard established a trading post near what is now Miami Beach, and in 1802 he sold ownership of Mérida to José Pablo de la Luz y Ortega. In 1835, Spain passed an act recognizing American sovereignty over both Florida and Texas, causing all areas west of San Miguel de Allende to become part of America. As a result, most of the population in Mérida shifted northward to new homes in what is now Miami Beach. By 1868, however, many Spaniards had returned to their old homes in Mérida and Reserva del Mar because they were not allowed to emigrate permanently to America. Consequently, only a small number of Americans lived in Mérida until after World War II when it began its process of becoming an American town again. During World War II much activity took place at Fort Harrison on Key Biscayne Boulevard due to its strategic location within range of enemy bombers flying from Europe. The fort also served as training ground for United States Navy personnel during the war years before being turned into a naval air station in 1944 following V-E Day when Japan surrendered unconditionally. The air station continued operation until it was closed down by Congress effective September 30th 1973 citing budgetary reasons. Today only remains are some foundations from early 1945 including barracks for officers and enlisted men and one radar tower still standing
