Miami Gardens has been a center of coffee-making in the Miami area for over 100 years. The first coffeehouse in Miami Gardens opened its doors in 1876. Coffee was initially brewed by African Americans on Molasses trees near State Road 7 and Northwest 25th Street. The first commercial re-rod of Arabica beans to be roasted in Greater Miami was at the American Coffee Company, located along Northeast First Avenue and Northwest Second Street, on October 8, 1912. It is believed that Harry Peet roamed this business early on as a supplier of beans to several small businesses before opening his own Cafeteria (now known as Hooters) on NE First Ave., serving up delicious Filipino coffees from 1912 until 1974.
Miami Gardens, Florida is a city located in Miami-Dade County, Florida. The population was 1,951 at the 2010 census. Miami Gardens is part of the Greater Miami area and is bordered by South Beach to the south, Biscayne Boulevard to the east, Everglades Park to the north and west and Kendall Woods to the south. The name "Miami Gardens" was given to this community by Dr. Wesley Patterson while he was working as an internist with Baptist Hospital in Miami in 1924. Dr. Patterson had been born in what is now Overtown neighborhood of Miami and attended elementary school there before moving on to Jackson Heights High School where he earned his high school diploma in 1927. After completing high school, Dr. Patterson went on To work for two years at New York Life Insurance Company before coming back home and starting his own practice which he ran until 1944 when he resigned because of World War II service member obligations. In 1944 Dr. Patterson married Eleanor Gray who came from a family of physicians also active in medical caretng within their community including her paternal grandfather who had opened a general store on Roosevelt Road near NW Third Street in 1892; her father (Dr. John Gray) who worked as a pathologist at Payne Field Hospital; her mother (Nellie Mae Hardin) who worked as a nurse at Baptist Hospital; both their sisters (Martha Allyne Randolph Hardin and Marguerite Margaret Hardin) were nurses as well; Mrs.. Alvey Granados operated an ice cream parlor called 'Patterson's Place' across Roosevelt Road from New York Life Insurance Company during prohibition era days} In 1948 Drs...Patterson & Gray bought land north of US-1& west of I-595 & started building homes which they named "Mango Grove." They sold all their holdings excepting one house which they kept & subsequently moved into it - becoming known as "The Lakeside". Miami Gardens, Florida is a city in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 56,829 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami–Fort Lauderdale–West Palm Beach Metropolitan Statistical Area. The area that would become Miami Gardens was first settled by Germans in 1875 and was known as "Biscayne" because it bordered Biscayne Bay on the east and the Parkland Peninsula on the west. By 1903, much of what is now Miami Gardens had been developed as an upscale suburb of Miami. In 1924, Everglades Estates—a subdivision founded by developers John D. Rockefeller and his brother Nelson A. Rockefeller—was established adjacent to present-day Miami Gardens as a planned community for affluent white people with access to all aspects of government services and privilege including private schools and golf courses. In 1954, when newly elected segregationist Governor Manuel López Colón declared that all public education in south Florida should be based on race rather thanullaity or talent (this decision helped spur Broward County's move from majority black to majority white), instruction in Spanish was provided only through special educational programs for children living in south Floridians who could not attend state school; students from other parts of southern Florida were forced to attend segregated high school classrooms without any opportunity for bilingual instruction or extracurricular activities outside their classes. In 1956 King George VI granted charter number 7293 to businessman Booker T Washington High School which became an internationally known magnet school for African American youths in South Florida until its closure in 2003 due to funding cuts made by then-Governor Jeb Bush Jr.. The opening of Booker T Washington brought some new life into what had been an almost abandoned cityscape during those days before downtownMiami erupted into full color around 1960 with the erection of beautiful new buildings built specifically for this prestigious institution such as HB Barry Auditorium designed by architect Philip Johnson which served as home court for both teams during their years at Washington High School before they moved upriver to Overtown High School where they remain today... This event also signaled beginning of large scale redevelopment taking place throughout south Floridiana spearheaded by Mayor David Dinkins who soon after took office turnedictate plans calling for many major projects including: construction of Interstate 95/I-95M interchange; widening Uptown Expressway; reopening Crosstown Freeway; development along Coconut Grove Road near Brickell Avenue becoming one point where shopping malls replaced traditional streetcar lines serving mainly low income areas...South Floridian mayors have continued this pattern over ensuing decades going so far as to name large portions or entire districts within their cities after prominent north Floridian mayors such as Bob Taft (Manhattan), Ernest Futch (Hollywood), Lawerence Covington (Pompano Beach) & even current Mayor Carlos Gimenez who has called Little Havana “the most important Cuban neighborhood on American soil” Merritt Island Airport opened November 1st 1957 under Air Force Colonel Sidney Frazier with service being offered everyday starting at 6am UST until 12am local time until operations were discontinued May 15th 1959 following military orders during the Korean War
