The Miami Gardens Police Department has been providing policing services to the city of Miami Gardens for over 50 years. The department's origins can be traced back to the days when law and order was the responsibility of a single officer. In 1957, the department was organized into two divisions - an investigative division and a Patrol Division. In 1969, the Patrol Division was divided into three units - Traffic Enforcement Unit, Narcotics Unit, and Gun Control Unit. The unit responsible for firearms regulation and enforcement within Miami Gardens became known as the Firearms Unit in 1978. In 1990, under mayor Carlos Gimenez, changes were made to the police department which saw increased staffing levels and new equipment purchases. One of these purchases was a newly-developed squad car that would become known as "The Beast". This car is still in use today by TheMiamiGardensPoliceDepartment. One of Mayor Gimenez's most significant initiatives during his time in office was his plan to increase crime rates in Miami Gardens. His strategy called for more aggressive patrols and increased funding for police operations across all sectors of society. As a result, crime rates decreased throughout much of Miami Gardens while also decreasing street gangs' power base within their neighbourhoods. This success is credited with helping to drive down crime rates within Miami Gardens overall since 1992. Today, the Miami Garden Police Department continues its long history of providing quality policing services to neighbourhood residents through its proactive strategies and innovative technologies used in patrol tasks as well as investigations throughout our community. The first post office opened in 1888 and was called Fort Myers Avenue Station; it moved to its present location near Northwest 14th Street and Northwest 15th Avenue in 1912. On November 1, 1915 Hurricane Flora caused extensive damage to downtown Miami Gardens; $200,000 had been spent prepping for the storm. Despite this setback, business continued strong during World War I and World War II due to military veterans living nearby and supplying goods needed for wartime production. After the war ended there were some successes such as increased sales at local stores brought about by new residents who were drawn to property values that hadincreased 50%. The increase in property values led to an influx of retirees from South Korea who built mansions along Northwest MacArthur Boulevard which overlooked much of the then unincorporated area now known as MidtownMiami Gardens which became evermore congested with their high rent prices

Miami Gardens, Florida was once a small settlement in Miami County, Florida. The community was founded by the surveyor and landowner John T. Good in 1868. The first post office was established in 1870, and the first school was built in 1872. By 1884, Miami Gardens had a population of about 350 people and a school system with six schools. In 1906, the town of Miami-Dade annexed Miami Gardens, making it part of the new county. The city of Miami Beach was created from parts of both Miami Gardens and Miami-Dade after World War II when many veterans who had served in Japan returned to live in South Florida. When New York City merged withMiami Beach on November 1, 1959, it became one city under the rule of Mayor Robert Moses. That same year, construction began on what is now Marlins Park which opened for baseball play on April 12th, 1964. The park has been home to numerous other sports teams over its years including soccer (the United States national team), basketball (the Heat), track & field (the 1984 Olympics), and inline skating (the 2007 YouTube sensation). Miami Gardens was founded on November 3, 1923 by citrus growers in what is now Miami-Dade County. The city grew rapidly due to its location at the mouth of the Everglades and its access to water supplies. In 1935, the Miami Dade Commission designated Miami Gardens as a town. The city's first mayor was Harry Laughlin. The area that now includes Miami Gardens and Homestead was part of Fort Lauderdale until 1912 when it became a county seat under Reconstruction. After Florida became a state in 1907, Fort Lauderdale reverted back to federal control and the land fell within Homestead Township section 8 of Broward County which then included most of today's Miami Gardens neighborhood. By 1923, local citrus growers had realized that growing oranges in the hostile environment near mangroves would be much harder than elsewhere and they decided to settle there in order to create an orange producing district with easy access to markets. In 1935, two years after annexation by Miami Gardens, construction began on what is now Orange Bowl Drive (later renamed Park Circle) as one of the original public works projects designed specifically for growth in South Florida by President Franklin D. Roosevelt as part of his New Deal program. The $1 million project involved dredging some 50 feet (15 meters) deep into Lake Worth Harbour along Park Circle to create a channel for shipping agricultural products from Jacksonville upriver and thence downriver through downtown Fort Lauderdale before finally reaching Orange Bowl Drive where they were unloaded onto barges and then transported across Memorial Boulevard past Federal Reserve Bank building before being delivered direct to consumers’ homes or stored at warehouses near NW First Avenue and NW 54th Street until 1942 when refrigeration technology made packing fruits more efficient so these items could be stored either fresh or frozen instead). This event also marked the beginning of what is known as “the golden age” for tourism in South Florida because during World War II many people worked outside the home while others invested money into property development which led to increases in housing values throughout Broward County – including today’s southernmost portions of Coral Gables – making this region one of America’s most expensive places to live despite having low population densities relative to other cities at that time
