The Miami Lakes Air Force Base deployed a gift to the community in memory of Major General Charles "Chuck" Henson on December 14, 2009. The gift was an electronic warfare system known as the Predator C3-A. The Predator is a five-seater, unarmed aerial vehicle designed for long-range surveillance and reconnaissance missions over land or water support operations. The Predator C3-A is being donated by Lockheed Martin Corporation and has been funded through the Air Force's Timothy P. Murphy Program. The aircraft will be used by United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) in Afghanistan to conduct surveillance and reconnaissance operations against Taliban and Al Qaeda targets. USSOCOM also plans to use the Predators in Operation Neptune's Spear, which is planned to take place between May and October 2010 in Afghanistan. The Predator C3-A was donated by Lieutenant Colonel James Burchfield of the 159th Special Operations Aviation Regiment at Miami Lakes AFB, Florida on behalf of United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM). Lieutenant Colonel Burchfield was formerly with USMC Squadron 771 at MCAS Miramar Joint Task Force - Forward Operating Base Shankili which played an important role in Operation Neptune's Spear. This team was responsible for providing air cover for forces conducting ground assault operations against Taliban positions near Kandahar Airport during that operation. On December 14, 2009, Chuck Henson died after succumbing to injuries he had sustained while serving as Major General with US Army Forces Korea (USAFFK) from 2002 until his death on November 10, 2009 from injuries received when his MCTC helicopter crashed into a mountain near hostile Korean military positions about 60 miles southwest of Seoul on September 3, 2009 killing all six passengers aboard including himself

Miami Lakes is a small town in Miami County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,868 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami-Dade Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was laid out by Captain John Grimes in 1876 and named after Miami Lake on the opposite side of I-95 from which it is located. In 1877, Grimes donated land to establish a public school. The first school building was built on what is now Northwest Third Street and Northwest Seventh Avenue. In 1886, Grimes donated another tract of land to establish a Methodist church which became known as First Methodist Church Miami Lakes. That same year, Grimes donated $5 for the construction of a Jail that served as jail until 1963 when it was replaced by the present Sheriff's Department Annex Building on West Fourth Street. In 1902, James Kapp donated additional land to form Marlins Park and also funded Minor League baseball for Miami Lakes through his company JK Appaloosa Land Company; this helped bring professional baseball to the town for the first time in its history. For many years afterwards (1902-2009), Marlins Park played host to various major league baseball games; during that time period it also hosted several high school basketball tournaments (the most recent being in 2006). Miami Lakes post office opened in 1907 and continued serving until 1964 when it merged with South Beach Post Office into one entity under ZIP code 33139. Today there are only two mailboxes left remaining in downtown Miami Lakes - one at Southwest Third Street and another at Southwest Ninth Avenue - both of which have been used exclusively for junk mail ever since they were installed! It wasn't until 1933 that electric streetlights were added to help light up old streets during night while still allowing people access to their homes without having their lights turned off; this act helped improve safety conditions for residents living near Highway 95 northbound between Key Biscayne Boulevard and Northeast Second Avenue due east of downtownMiami Lakes during those dark hours! A second post office operated from 1945-1964 inside an annex complex located on Northeast Second Avenue adjacent to Dadeland Mall before being closed due to lack of demand following World War II; today only two bricks remain from that structure’s foundation remaining within present day Miami Lakes proper! Today, our small town continues its growth along with its rich culture thanks not just to its great citizens but alsoto some amazing businesses who have contributed greatly To our economy! Miami Lakes is a small town in Miami County, Florida, United States. The community was founded by white settlers in the early 1900s and became a popular summer vacation spot for families. In recent decades, Miami Lakes has become an enclave for people of Hispanic descent who enjoy its quiet streets and relaxed lifestyle. The earliest residents of Miami Lakes were Spanish immigrants who arrived in the area in the early 1800s. They built homes along the banks of the Miami River and started to plant crops and raise livestock. By 1885, there were about 10 families living in Miami Lakes. The first post office was established in Miami Lakes on October 14, 1885. In 1908, Panama Canal construction began and many new residents moved to the area to work on the project. By 1911, there were over 100 people living in Miami Lakes. In 1925, all but four of the original 10 families left for good because of difficult economic times. However, by 1930, most of these transplants had returned to their old homes or had moved away altogether due to changes within society and changing demographics within southern Florida at that time. By 1935, only two remaining family members lived in Miami Lakes; mother and son Angelo De Angelis Sr., age 85 years old and his daughter Anna De Angelis-Foley (age 71 years old). Angelo's wife died a few months earlier from cancer at home while he was out fishing with friends nearby during a tough winter storm that closed down much of south Florida that year. Italian culture dominated much of south Florida during this time so it is not surprising that just one other person out of ten thousand people lived near Naples when Hurricane Flora hit on December 8th 1935 killing more than 300 people statewide including many elderly Italians who refused to leave their homes as they saw no hope for survival given what they called "the bad luck" following hurricane season conditions especially since so many businesses failed due to lack of customers after Christmas 35 years prior! Unfortunately another very costly natural disaster struck south Florida soon afterwards as Hurricane Frances caused extensive damage across Pinellas County resulting $500 million worth total damage done including loss/damage estimated at over $1 billion making it one of America's worst natural disasters! pathology reports from those days stated it would be quite some time before such damages could be recovered even though many lives were lost outright certainly less than if any sort Of insurance or compensation had been available then because those days such events were still considered 'natural'. In the early 1920s, Miami Lakes was a small farming community in southwest Florida. The area was first settled by Native Americans in the late 17th century. A sawmill and lumberyard were built here in 1819, and wheat, sugar cane, and cattle were raised until the mid-19th century. The Miami Lakes Post Office was established in 1851. In 1870, a wagon road connecting Tampa with Key West became available through Miami Lakes. By 1895, there were over seventy businesses in Miami Lakes employing around 500 people. The mill closed in 1906 due to competition from nearby Miamisburg mills. In 1928, during the Great Depression, when much of south Florida was struggling, farmers decided to move their operations to new locations such as Miami Lakes because they could get more money for their land at lower prices thanks to US government stimulus programs like FHA loans. Over time, many of these farms became subdivisions or villas; some are still standing today on large tracts of citrus groves near Kendallville and Homestead Beach
