The Miami Lakes Army Base is home to the 2nd Infantry Division and its many branches, including the 7th Cavalry Regiment. The base has been a part of the United States military since 1898. It was during World War II that Miami Lakes became one of the most important army bases in Florida. The 2nd Infantry Division's history begins with World War I when it was organized as an artillery regiment on December 15, 1918. It served as an infantry division throughout World War I and was mobilized for service in April 1919. The division fought at Tientsin, China; Meuse-Argonne, Belgium; Champagne-sur-Seine, France; and Anzio beachhead operation. In 1922 it redeployed to Mobile, Alabama where it remained for two years until being sent back to Panama City for duty in 1924 under command of General John Pershing’s Third American Expeditionary Force (AEF). From 1925 through 1928 the division participated in maneuvers at Camp Blanding, Florida before being transferred again to Mobile for duty in 1929 under command of General Leonard Wood’s forces in Mexico City during the Second Sino-Japanese War (1937–1945). After two years of occupation duty in Japan he returned his unit to Panama City where it relieved Battery A1/2, 9th Artillery Regiment (Light), 3rd U.S. Artillery Brigade there on October 16, 1940. On January 25th 1941 Headquarters 1st Battalion/15th Arty were detached from 1st Infantry Division and reorganized into Company C/7th Arty which arrived at Miami Lakes Army Base on February 6th 1941 under Commandant Captains Clarence Laughlin and James Fenton Skipper Jr.). In 1945 Headquarters Company 7th Arty was redesignated Headquarters Troop “A” Co., 511st Tank Battalion activated on November 8 1944 at Fort Sam Houston Texas preparatory to deployment overseas with VII Corps headquartered in Okinawa Bay . Upon their arrival they were attached to 4teenth Infantry Division located near Yokosuka Naval Air Station awaiting orders from higher commands regarding their mission . On December 10 1945 HQA Coy 511stTank Bn left Okinawa Bay enroute San Francisco Island CA destination unknown but destination known as Lingayen Gulf Zone Japanese held island off Philippines This action completed hostilities between USA & Japans ended by capitulation of Japan ending World War II During this time units also operated out side United States Military Area Of Responsibility called phantom zone which included parts of South Korea eastern border area On September 15 1951 activation order received by 2ID headquarters changes name from “2IDminusXXXI Corps Detachment Hawaii”to 2ICARMYGHQ US ARMY GALAXY WEST COAST REALIGNMENT DETACHMENT HAWaii—This detachment would become known as 3rd Infantry Division upon its activation on October 20 1951 3ICARMYGHQ US ARMY GALAXY WEST COAST REALIGNMENT DETACHMENT HAWaii activated July 22 1952 along with 1ST AND 9TH INFANTRY DIVisions relocated from mainland Chinauchame III Corps area now covering all or portions of: Santa Clara County Calif., San Mateo CountyCalif., Orange CountyFla., Osceola CountyFla., Hillsborough County Fla., Pinellas County Fla.; includes TampaBayArea) During this period 3ICARMYGHQ US ARMY GALAXY WEST COAST REALIGNMENT DETACHMENT HAWaii conducted combat operations against Viet Cong guerrillas operating along Vietnam - Laos Border areas providing security for oil industry facilitiesand other vital installations within Republic Of Vietnam In 1957 brigade renamed itself 3rd Infantry Division afteractivationOrder dated June 30 1957 changed Brigade Name To "3d Inf Div" Mayflower Barracks decommissioned effective date May 10 1959 due to low enrollment rate at West Point so Facility closed effective date same day becoming Home Guard Armory no longer open to visitors

Miami Lakes is a town in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 7,023 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami-Ft. Lauderdale-Hollywood metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in Miami Lakes was John Barnes in 1892. After several years of growth and development, Miami Lakes officially became a town on December 1, 1907. The name "Miami Lakes" comes from two Indian words: "Miami," meaning 'the big pond' and "Lakes," meaning 'peaceful place'. In 1922 it was reported that over 1000 people had moved into Miami Lakes since its incorporation as a town. In 1925 the first post office opened in Miami Lakes with mail service from Ft. Lauderdale via boat to all points eastward includingKey Biscayne and Homestead Heights; this would later be replaced by an airmail facility which opened in 1959. Many businesses were established during this time such as Wellman's grocery store (founded in 1924), American Legion Hall (1927), Hanna Barbera Productions studios (formed 1935), and Country Club Heights Golf Course (founded 1938). However, World War II interrupted many of these activities as local residents served their country through military service or went off to fight in Europe or Asia. Many businesses reopened after the war while others closed due to lack of customers or competition from larger stores opening up around the city during this time period. One such business that experienced increased popularity during the late 1940s and early 1950s was Joes Pizza which began serving pizza on Northwest 25th Street near Northwest First Avenue just east of I-95 where other restaurants did not exist at that time; Joe's soon became one of South Florida's most popular food providers serving national headlines for its delicious pies until it closed its doors in 1987 following Hurricane Andrew which destroyed much of downtownMiami Beach and much residential property along Northeast 2nd Avenue between Ocean Drive and NW Seventh Street

Miami Lakes is a small town in Miami-Dade County, Florida. It is located on the eastern edge of the city of Miami and northwest of the county seat, Miami Beach. The community dates back to 1892 when two families purchased land east of Fort Lauderdale for $1,000. In 1916, a group of farmers purchased 8 acres (3 ha) from W. L. Hines for $10 per acre. After years of growth and expansion, in 1968 Miami Lakes merged with neighboring communities Doral Estates and Cutler Ridge to form the current community. According to the 2010 census, Miami Lakes has a population of 3,609 residents. The first structures in what would become Miami Lakes were simple adobe buildings built by pioneer settlers in 1892. Over time more complex architecture was erected around 1930-1932 by developers who created an agricultural area that included citrus groves and houses for workers on their plantations near Cooper Lake. By 1950 there were over 100 homes and businesses in the community including one hospital catering to patients from nearby Broward Hospital Medical Center as well as local schools like Stonington Elementary School which opened in 1951 and Coconut Grove High School which opened in 1957). In 1969-1970 AECOM began engineering work on what would become known as "the master plan" for downtown Miami that would include office space, housing units, retail development and public works projects such as new drainage systems and streetlights throughout the city center along Lincoln Road between Northwest First Avenue and Northwest Second Avenue (later becoming Overtown Boulevard). Plans called for most everything within walking distance including: beacheside restaurants such as The Pier at Boynton Beach; movie theaters; shopping centers; banks; hospitals; golf courses; nursing homes; professional sports teams such as American football's Dolphins (then members of NFL South Florida), basketball's Heat (now part of NBA), baseball's Marlins (now owned by MLB), soccer's USF Seminoles (formerly members of USL PRO) among others AECOM completed its design work on downtownMiami during 1974-1975 with construction starting later that year under then Mayor Manuel Diaz who oversaw this ambitious project which led to increased business activity throughout downtownMiami including jobs for locals along with increased tourism popularity due to its sightsseeings opportunities The Master Plan was finally approved by voters in November 1979 following much debate resulting from concerns about traffic congestion caused by burgeoning development along Lincoln Road between Northwest First Avenueand Northwest Second Avenue while people were able to enjoy beautiful views across Clearwater Bay from many different neighborhoods
Miami Lakes was first settled in 1836 by Captain John St. Clair as a stop on his Indian Trails trip from Florida to the Gulf of Mexico. The name Miami Lakes comes from the Miami River, which ran through the area. The settlers were Native Americans, and they named their community after the river. By 1840, Miami Lakes had a population of around 180 people and was located in what is now part of Broward County. In 1845, Colonel James K. Polk became President of the United States and made Miami Lakes part of Florida as part of his policy of Manifest Destiny. In 1868, General Manuel López de Santa Anna surrendered control of Mexico to Ulysses S. Grant and Miami Lakes became an integral part of American soil once again. After World War II ended, many people left for better opportunities in America, but some remained until 1964 when it was renamed Dade County after then-President Lyndon B. Johnson
