The Marine Corps has been deployed in Miami Lakes, Florida since the early 1900s. The Marines have a rich history in this community and their presence is felt by many. One of the first Marines to arrive in Miami Lakes was Captain Alfred W. Cook who served from 1898-1900. He was part of the 1st Battalion, 5th Marines Regiment which arrived on December 8, 1898. Since then, there have been a number of Marines deployments to Miami Lakes including World War II (1941-1945), Operation Neptune's Spear (2004), and Operation Iraqi Freedom (2003-2007). In 2003, Lieutenant Colonel Michael J. Casey assumed command of 3rd Battalion 2nd Marine Regiment which was stationed at Camp Lejeune before being moved to Miami Lakes in 2005. In 2006, he became Commanding Officer 1st Battalion 2nd Marine Regiment which is now located at Camp Pendleton. He has also served as Brigade Commander for III MEF during multiple deployments throughout his career with the battalion including two deployments to Afghanistan.
The Marine Corps has been deploying Gift Certificates to its Marines for many years now. Miami Lakes is a community in Miami-Dade County, Florida. The community was established in 1959 by the merger of two small communities, Miami and Parkland. The population was 4,752 at the 2010 census. It is located on State Road 7 near Miami University and is bordered by South Bay to the west, Brickell to the north, Kendall to the east and Cutler Bay to the south. The name "Miami Lakes" comes from Miami Lake which was created when a group of investors drained wetlands near present-day Midtown Miami for building development. In 1959, developer Julius Rosenwald purchased 2,000 acres of land just west of downtown Miami from Wernher von Braun for $1 million. Rosenwald had developed nearby Midtown into one of South Florida's most vibrant neighborhoods with large office complexes and homespun subdivisions dating back to the 1920s. He named his new community "Miami Lakes" in honor of both his childhood home in Bavaria and Rosenwald's personal connections with both Munich and Miami Beach - two major American cities then considered key cultural centers during prohibition era America (Rosenwald would later become president of Univision Communications).[2] With its location adjacent to one of South Florida's major universities – such as UM – as well as developing businesses like Dolphin Tennis Club and Hollywood Casino Resort, "Miami Lakes" quickly grew into one of the area's premiere communities.[3] By 1961, it boasted over 10 thousand residents,[4] making it one of South Floridas' most populous towns.[5] As suburban sprawl continued to spread throughout South Florida during that decade – aided by cheap real estate prices thanks to Hurricane Andrew – "Miami Lakes" began seeing some competition from newer developments such as Cutler Bayou Estates[6] (serving as a model for much later planned subdivisions like Coconut Grove), Midtown West[7], North Shore[8], Pembroke Pines[9], Plantation Heights[10][11][12][13][14][15][/16][/17][/18][/19][/20] (prioritizing luxury housing options over recreational opportunities), Coral Gables[21]( focusing more on active vacation living than business or retail activity) – all situated within only a few miles radius of each other onstate property now annexed by Homestead Mayor Don Young’s city limits since 1978; making it difficult for any newcomer trying hard not to end up right next door or sharing streets with today’s high school students zooming around bikes without helmets while parents hover over their children handlebars shouting “watch out!” At first glance this may appear likes just another post-recession town where money talks but take a walk down Main Street today circa 2019…..and you will see row after row after long lineups at local bars/restaurants/shops/condos because people have stopped investing in physical infrastructure that makes their lives easier…..this website has been documenting this trend starting back before 2007………

Miami Lakes is a small, rural community in Polk County, Florida. The community was founded in 1865 by Captain John A. Nelson. Miami Lakes is located on the banks of the Miami River and features a population of only 100 people as of 2000. The first white person to live in Miami Lakes was Captain John A. Nelson who arrived in 1865 from Massachusetts. He built a cabin on the property where he and his family would live for over 80 years until their death in 1978. In 1938, Captain John's grandson, Captian William Blythe Nelson III donated 193 acres (71 hectares) of land to the town of Miami Lakes which became its primary business district and government center. In 1964, General Motors Corporation constructed a car factory on part of the original captain's land which helped contribute to the growth and prosperity of Miami Lakes over the years. Since its foundation, Miami Lakes has been home to many businesses including three grocery stores, two restaurants, twenty-six churches/synagogues, an ice cream parlor, four schools (grades K-12), and two golf courses (one public and one private). Thecommunity also played host to several popular events over the years such as 4th Of July fireworks displays from 1951 through 1974; three annual agricultural fairs starting in 1924; four PBA state championships held at Bloomfield Stadium between 1945 and 1962;and ten NASCAR races between 1959 and 1966
