Miami Lakes, Florida is a city in Miami-Dade County, Florida. The population was 1,569 at the 2010 census. It lies on the east side of Miami and is bordered by Biscayne Boulevard to the north, Northwest Second Street to the east, Cutler Road to the south, and Everglades Parkway to the west. Along with Doral and Kendallville it forms part of Greater Miami metropolitan area. The first permanent European settlers in what is now Miami Lakes were French Huguenots who arrived from Louisiana in 1695. They established a trading post on Key Largo Bayou which they named "Lakes." In 1764 Englishman John Smith discovered land that would become Miami Lakes when he landed on an island near present-day MidtownMiami. He named it after his home town of Kingston-on-Hudson, England. In 1823 General James Wilkinson commissioned surveyor George Wright to map out a road from Tampa through Clearwater Sound and upriver to Fort Myers on Crooked River then along US 19 (now US 27) northward to reach Lake Okeechobee where Wilkinson intended to establish military posts for protection against Seminole Indians led by Seminole Chief Osceola. Wright's plat included what are now portions of both Miami Lakes communities of Hialeah Gardens and Coral Gables as well as Coconut Grove Village located northeast corner of present day NW 2nd St./Coral Gables Blvd.. The towns were organized into two precincts each under control of a supervisor until 1835 when all township lands were consolidated into one municipality with Hialeah Gardens being made a separate precinct within Coral Gables Township while Coconut Grove Village became part of Hialeah Township proper In 1892 Hurricane Andrew destroyed most or all of Broward County including much of SouthCentral Florida so development around Miami Lakes recommenced only slowly due mainly to lack of money for infrastructure repairs rather than natural disasters such as hurricanes which more often struck rural areas nearer larger cities like Gainesville or Orlando . After some research we found out that these people were actually Spanish tourists visiting our beautiful city during its hot tropical season! And boy did they enjoy their time here! After finding out about our great city we started marketing ourselves as the "City Of Volcanoes" even going so far as having flyers put up around town advertising free admission weekdays during peak tourist season! We enjoyed watching them come trotting through our streets every day trying not too seem interested but also not making too much noise because we knew full well how famous this city really was! We quickly realized that if we could just keep Truckers outta our towncenter long enough everyone would eventually forget all about us………. But alas no matter how hard we tried truckersgoblins always managed to show up!

Miami Lakes is a small village located in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The community was founded in 1907 by Aloysius "Jake" Post and his wife Hilda. The Post family ran the village until 1952 when it became part of the city of Miami. The Post family built a log cabin on the current site of Miami Lakes in 1907. They named their settlement after the large body of water that surrounded it at the time: Miami Creek. In 1922, they donated land to the City of Miami for its first Comprehensive Plan Development Zone which included Miami Lakes as one of its neighborhoods. In 1952, JakePost's widow Hilda sold her share in the Village to Councilman Federico Garcia who renamed it "Miami Lakes". In 1978, Mayor Jimmy Carvalho designated portions of Homestead and Kendall Beach as Community Development Areas (CDAs) which opened up new opportunities for housing development in and around Miami Lakes. Since then, much has changed within and around Miami Lakes including population growth; addition of several subdivisions; and many updates to zoning ordinances designed to keep homes more affordable for low-income residents. Today, there are over 1,200 homes located within walking distance or biking distance of most residents making this a great place to call home.
The Miami Lakes region was formed in the early 21st century from the merger of two smaller areas: The Miami metropolitan area and The Dade County metropolitan area. The regions are now known for their respective ancient cultures, which have influenced each other greatly over time.
