Miami Shores, Florida is a census-designated place in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 5,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami–Fort Lauderdale–Pompano Beach Metropolitan Statistical Area. The area now known as Miami Shores was originally called "Tenaha" by the Apalachicola Indians. In 1836 Capt. John James Marshall and about 100 men explored and laid out a plan for what would become Miami on November 8 of that year with Fort Moultrie being founded two days later as part of the military occupation of Spanish territory in South Florida to capture American slaves under then Captain Manuel de la Vega's command. On January 16, 1837 Aideen Sadlier bought from La Vega all but fourty acres (200 hectares) within present day Miami Shores which included what is now Everglades National Park from Isabella Key to Biscayne Bayou. On February 1st Aideen Sadlier recorded in her journal “I set out this morning with fourteen negroes & one white man named Abram” who accompanied me when I left Pensacola yesterday night for this place where we are going to build a home’ This land was given to Sadlier by Major General Carlos Menendez y Menocal who had been capturing Spanish forces during the Seminole War and becoming head countrter for Indian Affairs under US President James K Polk after his appointment as Governor of Florida on December 12th 1845). In 1865 Anna Maria Moore donated 6 square miles (15 km2) including present day Miami Shores to Stonington Presbyterian Church trustees in memory of their late mother Anna Maria Moore whose donation includes . . . this tract immediately north 2/3rds east of center line or about 114 rods or 3 miles long and about ½ mile wide lying between Biscayne Bayou on the west side and Hollywood Boulevard on the east side extending into Everglades National Park on its southwestern boundary . Mrs. Anna Maria Moore had also gifted 4 square miles (10 km2) located easterly along Hollywood Boulevard next to Mrs. Juana Broome’s home which became known as Coconut Grove before it was annexed by Broward County in 1957; these lands were added to Miami Shores boundaries when it bordered Broward County but never incorporated into it.) In 1901 Captiawny Creek flowing southward through Tenaha Creek village formed an artificial channel connecting Tenaha Creek with river mouth just outside today's town limits while Tenaha Creek itself reached only southward from today's site through Gainesville Lakes before draining into Anclote River near modern-day Pompano Beach; thus following today's course until reaching Anclote River just northwest of downtown Pompano Beach original creek bottom lay within range Of dwellings hereabouts back then both large creeks flowed openly & supplies constantly came down main stem creek same way still does really good fishing so no need for artificial channels or dams most recent such construction began regenerating natural banks years ago old man bait shops closed last time I checked

Miami Shores is a census-designated place in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 33,878 at the 2000 census. The CDP was created on February 21, 1999 from portions of the former Village of Miami Beach. The name Miami Shores comes from "Mia" and the word shores meaning "shore". It is thought that this name was given to the area by its original inhabitants who were fishermen who used to fish near Fort Lauderdale and Miami. As time passed they also built more permanent homes in this area as it became more developed. The first settlers to arrive in what is now Miami Shores were Methodists who came to work on sugar plantations in early 1820s. After a few years their congregation moved out of South Florida for religious reasons and began performing services at various locations around Key Biscayne until 1830 when they finally settled at Mia Lake which is now part of present day Miami Shores. There are several theories about why these Methodists chose Mia Lake as their new home: some say it was because it had a good location for fishing; others say because there were no other churches nearby that could offer them religious guidance during difficult times. When slaves were brought over from Africa in 1839, some of them arrived with their families and started living among the local people. They soon realized that they would not be able to live completely freed from bondage but rather must share some aspects of life with their African counterparts such as food, clothing and housing although they enjoyed certain privileges such as freedom from labor laws and right to vote which chipped away at those rights gradually over time until all black citizens were granted full civil rights by law on January 15th, 1964. On July 31st 1899 they formed a partnership with Lorenzo Dowling (1847-1920), captain/owner/breeder/handler extraordinaire/member/founder only* (* Member designation does not imply membership status.) under which title Dowling Bros., Improvement Co., Incorporated took possession thereof forevermore being contractually bound theretofore never having existed otherwise than either independently thereof or ditto thereto save therein respectively duly constituted hereintofore duly authorised agents or representatives thereunto duly designated immediately upon said taking possession etcetera any changes therein designations so desired made thereby without notice hereof or consent hereinbefore obtained though probably better advised than any actually done thereby *(1) According to oral history interviews conducted by historian Driscoll Times historians believe this partnership may have been formalized much earlier but no firm evidence exists supporting this claim
In 1901, a group of men from Miami Beach founded the town of Miami Shores on the south coast of Miami. The first store opened in 1902 and by 1904, there were four stores and two businesses. In 1907, the town had its first post office which was located at 7 S. Grand Avenue. Agrarian society moved into the building in 1912 and it served as a meeting place for local farmers. The town grew rapidly because of its proximity to the port ofMiami and its easy access to transportation including those available on horseback or bicycle. By 1916, there were 10 businesses in Miami Shores with an average income of $5,000 per year. By 1922, there were 20 businesses with an average income of $25,000 per year. In 1926, the US government acquired title to all land between Long Key KeyAnd Biscayne Bay and gave it to Miami Shores for development as a naval base known then as "Shore Base". In 1937-1938 Hurricane Wilma destroyed most of Coconut Grove while primarily affecting South Florida; however most homes in South Beach survived without damage because they were built on landfill that was later covered with coral growth to prevent any flooding during future hurricanes. On May 14th 1938 President Franklin D Roosevelt delivered his State Of The Union Address from Capitol Hill USA before traveling Westward along I-95 towards Palm Beach County where he addressed residents about his New Deal program which included programs like Social Security Administration (SSA), Works Projects Administration (WPA), Federal Housing Authority (FHA)and Rural Electrification Administration (FERA). He also announced plans for construction of Hoover Dam which would provide irrigation water for farms within Los Angeles County as well as create new jobs throughout Southern California
