The Miami Shores National Guard was organized on July 1, 1947. The original unit was the 5th Infantry Regiment and it served in Southwest Florida until 1972. It then became the 2nd Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment from 1974 to 1978. In 1981, the regiment was redesignated as the Miami Shores National Guard Archery Unit and it has been serving ever since with distinction. On November 11, 1990, in commemoration of its 65th anniversary, theMiami Shores National GuardArchery Unit presented a rifle to Brigadier General emeritus James T. McHugh Jr., Commander of Brigade Headquarters Eighth Infantry Division Commanding U.S Army Garrison command at Fort Lauderdale-Lauderdale International Airport,. In September 1992, a plaque was unveiled in honor of World War II veteran Major John Peele who had been killed in action while fighting for the United States during World War II. The plaque honored Peele with a life membership in the Miami Shores National Guard and an award from then-Secretary of Defense Dick Cheney. In 1995, members of the Miami Shores National Guard were mobilized for Operation Neptune’s Spear which lasted over three months and resulted in more than 100 confirmed kills by UH-1N Huey helicopters against Vietcong insurgents inside South Vietnam. That same year also sawthe formal dedication ofthe present state capitol building upon completionof constructionproject that included funding from private donations by Mayor Carlos Gimenez

Miami Shores is a small town in the Miami-Dade County area of Florida, United States. It is located on the northeastern shore of Biscayne Bay and is bordered by Kendallville to the east, Jupiter to the north, and Cutler to the west. The population was 3,895 at the 2010 census. The first permanent settler in Miami Shores was James Henniker who arrived with his family in 1834. Henniker's plantation was along Biscayne Bay and he developed it into a successful sugar cane plantation that yielded large profits for him and his kin. By 1800, many European immigrants had established themselves in Miami Shores including Germans, Irishmen, Italians, Poles and Englishmen. Many of these newcomers brought their families with them as they left England for new opportunities in America. In 1841 when Congress passed an act designation Miami Shores as an agricultural township (it had been part of Dade County since 1835), local citizens voted to incorporate as a town under the name "Miami" because they desired better access to education and religious services than what they received from Dade County residents. In 1886/87 Island Key Light Station became operational on Signal Hill overlooking Biscayne Bay which made landfall on American Samoa while traveling across open ocean; this event marked one of only two times during its history that an international vessel entered territorial waters without beingas per U.S.–UK Treaty conditions - other occurred when Commodore John Watts sailed between San Francisco and Hawaii aboard HMS Beagle in 1898 On November 14th 1915 Japanese forces landed at Fort Pierce Beach just south of present day Coral Gables aftera night surprise attack against nearby naval personnel ashore seeking supplies for their impending invasion of Manchuria; however due to heavy gunfire from Allied forces stationed nearby few casualties were suffered despite high losses inflicted by Japan on installations ashore primarily artillery pieces used against American troops insteadof infantry units which constituted main attacking force During World War II much development took place within southern Ft Lauderdale areas now known as Broward County including such places as Hollywood Roosevelt Roads Naval Air Station (1939), Everglades Park (1940) Plantation Lakes Area Military Reservation #2 (1945) * later renamed Ft Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport
