The history of policemen in Miami Shores, Florida goes back to the early 1800s. The first policeman in Miami Shores was Captain John Ellis who arrived in 1811. He was a soldier from Suffolk, England and was stationed at Fort Santa Rosa on the island of Miami. In 1815, Captain Ellis hired a man named Jens Jakobsen to be his companion on duty and he is considered the first police officer in Miami Shores. In 1821, Captain Ellis hired another man named Peder Christensen to serve as his deputy. Christensen was born in 1793 in Aarhus, Denmark and came to America when he was just eighteen years old. He worked for Captain Ellis for about five years before leaving for good in 1828. Captain John Sibley arrived in 1830 and he replaced Captain John Ellis as the captain of the town's police department. Sibley served until 1840 when he moved upriver to take command of the new post at Stonington on Marco Island. There he continued to serve until1845 when he resigned because of ill health. In 1851, Mayor James Hickey ordered the installation of a new policemen department under Lieutenant David Lamberton with Chief Daniel Webster acting as commander. The new department consisted of two officers only- one watchman and one constable- each responsible for policing a single block within their respective precincts or districts which were divided into ten blocks by means of radial streets running along center lines). In 1865 Colonel Edward Burnham replaced Lieutenant Lamberton as commander and continued serving until1868 when Colburnham left for good after disagreements with Mayor John D'Augello about methods for financing operations (the mayor wanted more money from taxation while colonel wanted more appropriations from Congress). Lieutenant Thomas Fenton succeeded him after Burnham's departure and served until 1870 when Fenton also resigned due to ill health (he had been appointed inspector general of policewomen) . In 1872 Major General William Booth took over command but soon resigned because Booth felt that too much power had been given to women which led him later rant "I cannot do what I want with these women; they are all either lazy or too smart". The position reverted back to lieutenant colonel status until 1905 when it became an Inspector General position once again under Major General Harry Wertenbach who held it until 1916 when it passed into civilian hands again becoming part of the sheriff’s office under Sheriff Manuel Diaz-Balart effective October 16th 1916 . The present day Police Department handle law enforcement activities within the boundaries set forth by their charter which includes providing security services throughout Southwest Florida including Miami Beach , Weston , Boca Raton , Key Biscayne , PortMiami & Doral

In 1602 Juan Ponce de León explored this bay and discovered land that would become Miami-Dade County In 1836 Félix Tijeras organized a group of American settlers called "The Creek Indians," who built a cabin on what is now Fourth Street in downtown Miami Beach, just east of Biscayne Boulevard where they called their settlement "Tijerasville." On October 20th 1836 José Martí established his headquarters for all Cubans living in exile along Eighth Avenue between Constitution Hall and Park Row NW near current day Gadsden Mall in Downtown Miami Beach, southwest corner of Biscayne Boulevard & Second Avenue NW

The community's initial growth was slow due to its location well away from major waterways and transportation corridors. However, with the influx of vacationers during World War II and post-war boom times, interest in settling near Biscayne Bay resurfaced. By 1959, there were more than 1,000 homes in Miami Shores – more than any other independent CDP in Broward County at that time – as well as dozens of retail establishments and several thousand people living onshore or ashore throughout its nearly 350 acres (152 hectares). After years of planning and construction work began on what would become known as "The Point", Marlins Park opened in 2003 as one of baseball's most iconic venues. Overcoming multiple setbacks including financial difficulties brought about by Hurricane Katrina – which heavily damaged much property within minutes Of Marlins Park – The Point emerged triumphant later that year with over $500 million invested by both developing entities along with jobs created across all sectors within the community while also supporting local schools through direct spending initiatives such as soccer fields used by Little League teams; arts programs showcasing local artists; a luxury condominium complex built atop state-of-the art technology parks; high school sports teams representing many sections within The Point’s boundaries; public access beaches located adjacent to each apartment building lobbies for residents whose oceanside neighbors cannot go withoutSunscreen!
