The Miami Springs Coast Guard Station was established in 1935. The station is the first coast guard station on the Miami-Dade County line and has been a vital part of the community's security ever since. Today, the Coast Guard Station provides law enforcement, fire fighting, and other essential services to residents of Miami Springs and surrounding areas. It also serves as a source of education for local children about maritime safety and coastal life. The Coast Guard Station is home to a variety of important tools and equipment used by officers in their patrols along the Gulf Stream. These include manned boats, helicopters, patrol cars, radar equipment, and more. In addition to its many assets, the Miami Springs Coast Guard Station also plays an important role in providing support to other agencies within Florida's Department of Law Enforcement. This includes providing crime analysis and recommendations to deputies on matters related to narcotics trafficking; manning traffic stops; providing information on weather conditions that could impact safety; and more. The Miami Springs Coast Guard Station is a NOAA facility located in the city of Miami Springs, Florida. It was established on December 1, 1920 as Battery H at approximately 12 acres (4 hectares). The station was moved to its current location on the shoreline of Jupiter Lake in 1951. In 1984, the station became part of the National Weather Service's Miami-Dade Region. In 1987, a new mast and tower were erected at the station for use by air traffic control during winter storms. In 2000, a $3 million renovation project added an event hall and psittacal suite to the station. A reality show featuring the Coast Guard's missions aired from 2003-2004. In 2006, a new cargo bay was constructed adjacent to the main building housing four helicopters and associated gear. On November 16, 2007, it was announced that Coast Guard Station Miami Springs will be closed effective January 1st due to budget cuts within NOAA's New England Regional Office which effect all coast guard stations within 17 states east of Mexico City. The closure will leave only two active coast guard stations in Florida - one in Fort Myers Beach and one in Miami Lakes - both of which are managed by local government entities rather than NOAA’s staff.
Miami Springs, Florida is a small town in Miami-Dade County, Florida. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami–Fort Lauderdale–Wahiawa metropolitan area. The community was founded in 1892 by descendants of slaves who were brought to Florida from Africa. In 1933, Miami Springs became an incorporated village after it merged with neighboring Plantation Heights and Biscayne Bay neighborhoods. The springs are located near U.S. Route 1 and I-10 on Veterans Boulevard near Northwest First Street in the heart of Miami Springs Village as well as Northwest Second Street where they share a common watercourse called "The Well". They are also close to University of Southwestern Florida (USF) campus which is located just west of USF property on Southwest Fourth Road. The springs have been used for human entertainment since the early 1800s when white settlers first discovered them east of what is now downtown Fort Lauderdale because they could use them for irrigation purposes during times of drought in central Floridians such as nearby West Palm Beach and Lake Worth areas that relied heavily on rainfall from inland thunderstorms known then as tropical storms or hurricanes. White settlers dubbed these natural resources "springwater" because according to their belief then and still today that one can obtain only so much rain per year once you add up all the rained down water over a period long enough - usually about 12 months - no tree or plant could grow tall enough to receive any benefit from this excess moisture because too much water would seep through cracks and crevices in the rock so those trees never got tall enough to shade or block sunlight from reaching ground level due to evaporation which created hot spots averaging 100 degrees Fahrenheit (38 degrees Celsius). Coast Guard gift history goes back to 1876 when the U.S. Coast Guard was founded as a volunteer auxiliary of the military. The first gifts given to the Coast Guard were swords and pistols, which were given in an effort to keep officers and sailors safe while on duty. In 1937, the Coast Guard became its own service with its own unique set of gift traditions. Gifts from then on include items such as boats, anchors, lifejackets and more. In 1997, the Coast Guard merged with the Department of Homeland Security, creating both a unified Gift History for all Federal Agencies program and also increased opportunities for public donations through their online donation portal. Miami Springs is a small town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,813 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville–St. Augustine metropolitan area and is located on the central coast of Florida about 26 miles south of Jacksonville and 27 miles west of St. Augustine. Miami Springs first appeared on maps in 1838 as a small settlement on Miami River just north of present-day Fort Myers. The name "Miami" was given to the river by Spanish traders who visited the region in search for salt water from Mexico City. In 1840, James Knoppers built a cabin near present-day Miami Springs, becoming one of the early settlers there. He named his property "KNOPSTERSVILLE" after his brother-in-law, Nicholas Knoppers Sr., who had bought the land from Captain John Smith two years earlier. By 1845, many other investors had joined Knoppers in developing this new community; by 1850, it had grown to over 100 residents and consisted mostly of farmers and their families living near an agricultural zone that bordered Pensacola Bay on three sides and included mangroves offshore on another side. The community experienced its heyday during the late 19th century as waves of Irish immigrants arrived to work along Miami River's inland trade routes; many businesses were founded here including a grocery store operated by Fenton Bros., cigar factories run by Davidoff & Sons (now Russian American Tobacco), breweries such as Jacoby & Jennings (later Anheuser Busch) and Pabst Brewing Company, tanning plants and brickyards that produced both bricks for local homes and bricks for building schools, churches and other civic structures throughout eastern Polk County. At its peak in 1925–1927 only 2 percent of all jobs in county were held within Miami Springs boundaries; however jobs available ranged from machine operators at JCPenney stores to electricians working at power lines across town or in neighboring towns like Fort Myers Beach which became known as "the Athens district". According to historian James Ahern: In retrospect it may be seen that while some aspects of life here – such as agriculture – might have been primitive compared with those enjoyed later elsewhereabouts within much larger areas throughout Florida due largely to better transportation systems then any existing then or even today…it can be safely said that if you wanted something done back then you did it here." During World War II many civilians relocated into units stationed nearby such as Red Cross workers providing food parcels arriving off landing boats along Tampa Bay; most stayed until 1946 when they were ordered back home following Japan's surrender. After the war ended many businesses closed but others - such as Tractor Supply Co - thrived thanks to increased demand from holiday shoppers returning home after completing their tours overseas with NATO forces
Miami Springs was founded in 1845 by James W. McGill and his wife, Rachel. The town grew quickly due to the discovery of oil reserves in the area. Miami Springs became a popular tourist spot because of its natural springs and its location near the mouth of the Miami River. In 1909, Miami Springs was annexed by Lake Worth and it is now part of that city's extraterritorial jurisdiction
