Morgan in the early 20th century as a selling ground for his sugar cane plantations in what is now Overtown district of Miami Heights and Liberty City sections of Coral Gables. In 1922, Miamian entrepreneur Harry Bendix bought land adjacent to the springs and began developing them into an entertainment complex with a movie theater, swimming pool, tennis court, hotel and various other amenities such as golf courses nearby. After years of development work by both Mr. Bendix's heirs and local developers including Felix Frankfurter Jr., it opened to the public on July 1, 1949 as "Miami Springs". Today there are more than 50 businesses in Miami Springs with over 4500 residents employed within their ranks - making it one of South Florida's most vibrant communities – offering unique experiences that include horseback riding tours through Sultana Farms National Wildlife Refuge or taking a day trip from downtown to explore art galleries lined along Rickenbacker Causeway or spending time at one of several theme parks available throughout the community including "Four Seasons" Resort & Spa or "Biltmore".

The town gradually grew and became an important center for trade and industry in southern Florida during the early 19th century. In 1870, Miami Springs had a population of just over 100 people. By 1900, it had reached 1,500 residents and was home to both a post office and a school. A new addition to the town in 1916 made it an incorporated municipality with its own government. The town experienced several difficult times during World War II due to its strategic location on key shipping routes connecting Southeast Asia with Europe. However, after the war, Miami Springs regained much of its former glory as a tourist destination thanks to its array of luxurious hotels, golf courses, shopping centers and other attractions. Today, Miami Springs is one of Florida's most popular vacation destinations and is known for its wide variety of culture including Spanish language instruction for children at local libraries
