The Air ForceDeployedGiftHistorians project is a research and historical celebration of the military’s generous gesture of giving. The project began in 2008 as a means to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Operation Neptune’s Spear, which saw the Air Force send thousands of gifts to troops stationed in Miramar, Florida. Each year, we offer commemorative items and educational materials related to Operation Neptune's Spear. Since then, the project has grown into an annual event that celebrates air force deployments throughout the world. This year marks the sixth consecutive year that Miramar has hosted Operation Neptune's SpearFest, an event where residents and guests can explore military culture and history while enjoying refreshments and entertainment from members of the military community. This years' festival features more than justpendent exhibits on various aspects of military life in Miramar; it also includes four days of music, art, food trucks and much more! The festival culminates with a day-long parade through town streets honoring members of both branches of service who have donated their time and resources to make this community safer.

The Miramar-based Air Force gift history begins in 1947 with the activation of the 379th Bomb Wing. The wing was activated at Fort Worth Army Air Field, Texas and served as a bombardment squadron. In 1951, the 379th Bomb Wing moved to Shaw AFB, South Carolina and became an operational bomber unit. The unit supported combat operations during the Korean War by bombing North Korea from 15 Bomber Wings stationed in 11 countries. After the war ended, the wing returned to Shaw AFB where it remained untilactivated on 1 October 1991.
