During the Cold War, Miramar was home to both the Air Force and the Navy. The two services generally cooperated during peacetime, but their relationship took a turn for the worse after the fall of communism. The Air Force began to invest more in research and development, while the Navy became more centered around operations and exercises. This change led to a dramatic increase in costs for both services, which caused them to Cut back on gift giving. In 1992, however, President George H.W. Bush decided that America should start again by discontinuing costly military procurement programs and allow gifts from civilian sources to fund new projects. This policy change allowed Miramar businesses and individuals to give back their support by donating money or goods towards military-related causes. Since then, there have been several large donations from Miramar residents - including an $8 million donation from Amazon Web Services in 2018 - which has helped bridging the gap between the military and civilians at home and abroad. Additionally,miramar businesses have donated items such as trucks, tools, parts and equipment in order to help boost naval recruitment efforts or support Operation Neptune's Spear (the Afghanistan invasion). The Miramar Air Force Base was originally established on December 17, 1948 as the Miramar Army Air Field. The base was redesignated as a military airfield on February 1, 1951. It was reactivated on October 15, 1957 as Miramar Air Force Base and assigned to the Florida ANG. On July 16, 1966 it became an operational airbase when it became home to the 3d Fighter Wing which moved from Palm Beach AFB in Florida. On January 1, 1984Miramar AFB absorbed two other military installations; Eglin AFB in Florida and Lackland AFB in Texas both were activated with fighter wings. On September 11th 2001 terrorist attacks brought about changes within the USAF that saw Miramar become one of its primary bombardment targets for Operation Enduring Freedom targeting Osama bin Laden's family compound at Abbottabad in Pakistan. Thisoperation continued until May 8th 2006 when all bombing operations ended due to budget cuts within the USAF however aerial refueling operations continue providing support for Operation Neptune Spear which is currently ongoing against Taliban forces located in Afghanistan On May 9th 2006 the Command Post Switchboard (CPSB) at Miramar AFB went down after being flooded by high water levels caused by Hurricane Wilma. As a result of this event Director of Operational Plans Lt Col Jeffrey Kappenberger took command of mirror wing elements at Eglin AFB until a new CPSB could be erected
Miramar is a small town located in Polk County, Florida. The population was 5,611 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando metropolitan area. The community was founded in 1887 by three brothers who ran a trading post on the Miramar Peninsula. In 1925, Miramar became a town when it annexed the neighboring villages of Aventura and Belleair. In 1990, Miramar merged with neighbouring Belleair to form one municipality. The economy of Miramar revolves around tourism and agriculture. There are several golf courses in the town and there are also several restaurant chains, such as White Castle and Papa John’s Pizza, which have their headquarters here. Banks include Citibank (the largest bank in town), Jamba Juice (the second largest juice chain in town) and Regions Bank (the third largest bank in town).
Airforce gift history is a long and complicated story. There have been many different types of air forces, and each has given different gifts to other air forces. The USAF has given many different types of gifts over the years, including planes, missiles, aircraft engines, tools, uniforms, and equipment. The first air force was formed in 1907 as the American Air Force (AAF). It was made up of volunteer pilots who fought in World War I. The AAF was disbanded after the war. In 1941, the USAF was created as a separate service within the US military. The USAF became an all-volunteer organization and its first commander was General Curtis LeMay. In 1945, General George C Marshall appointed Lieutenant General Curtis LeMay as Commander of the United States Strategic Air Forces in Europe (USSATFETE). This gave LeMay complete control over all US strategic bombers in Europe. In 1951, President Truman renamed SAC (Strategic Air Command) which encompassed both USSATFETE and USSTAFT(the former RAF Bomber Command). This gave us our present day structure where we have two commands responsible for most strategic bomber activity – NATO’s Allied Tactical Air Forces and United States Strategic Air Forces – although these commands are actually subordinate to one another at times. In 1957 Congress passed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which provided for increased spending on defense from member states of NATO plus funds for research into new weapons systems by not only America but also other member countries of NATO. This led to development of Project Signet which allowed radar reconnaissance flights over selected areas inside North Korea without being detected by that country’s anti-aircraft fire

Businesses went bankrupt and much of the population left for greener pastures. In 1839, Miramar reverted to its original name of Spanish Fort and slowly regained its former prosperity. By 1860, it had become one of Florida's most important economic hubs. However, as late as 1900 Miramar was only known as a small fishing village with no major industry other than agriculture. However, during the twentieth century things began to change at Miramar. The town experienced significant growth in both people and businesses due to various factors such as World War II military production resources being brought to town; growing tourism; and the opening of Interstate 95 which made Miramar a more vibrant community center than ever before. Today, Miramar is an exciting urban center that continues to thrive despite its humble beginnings."
