On July 4th, 1961 Operation Neptune's Spear began with U-2 flying over Cuba and transmitting photos back to America showing missile sites within that country. In 1969, Miramar AFB became home to Tactical Missile Command (TMC) which was responsible for maintaining ground-based nuclear weapons across South America and parts of Europe during peacetime while also providing air defense services against impending war with North Vietnam. In 1991, TMC moved from its original location within Joint Base St Petersburg/ Clearwater into Eglin AFB where it remains today as one of Tampa Bay’s major military installations.� On July 25th USS Constitution Museum shipyard employees erected a giant American flagpole in memory of those lost during World War II which reached 95 feet tall��On November 16th � marking Armistice Day � veterans from all branches of the military participated in a parade down Main Street throughout town.� A total of 27 flags were flown�including 5 from TMC.�Miramar has been host site for numerous international events including: The Summit meeting between Presidents George H W Bush and Clinton; Hurricane Irma relief efforts; Veterans Day ceremonies; National Hispanic Heritage Month events.� As part SBC headquarters moves closer to its current location on Pinellas Park Boulevard near downtown Tampa Bay this year we will be looking forward to another century or more full membership with El Toro AFB!
