Miramar is a small, unincorporated community located in Pinellas County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,090 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tampa-St Petersburg-Clearwater metropolitan area. The oldest mention of Miramar is from 1834 when it was called "Jupiter". In 1868, Captain John Loughboroughwhite made a survey of what is now the town and named it after his friend Miramar Land grants had been given to him by then Governor James Buchanan. In 1902, Miramar's post office opened and continued to serve until 1967 when it was moved to St Petersburg. In 1903, a Baptist church was built in Miramar and remains in use today as First Baptist Church of Miramar. A schoolhouse also operated in Miramar for many years; however, it burned down in 1922 and has not been replaced since. In 1915 an Army barracks was built near present day University Boulevard on land that later became State Road 714 which connected Tampa with Fort Myers through Orange Beach peninsula. The barracks eventually became home to USF's first campus and still stands today as part of the university's Old Campus buildings complex. On April Fool's Day 1916 (or possibly 1917) due to a typo some residents mistakenly took their name from Palm Beach County instead of Pinellas County (the first place they appear), they spelled their new name "MiraMar" - again leading to confusion over who actually owned the town (it should have been "MiraLand"). The original post office closed on November 15th 1918 but reopened under new management on December 12th 1918 under the name "Miramar Post Office" until its closure in 1967 because of budget cutsPrior to becoming an unincorporated community there were several businesses that operated out of homes such as J & W Boddy's general store which closed around 1907 or 1908 when one Mr J Boardman decided he no longer wanted groceries delivered anymore across country because he found them too expensive so he started doing this himself at his house next door called Calvary Chapel which served as both mail order catalogues service(s)And second hand clothing store.(came back open briefly before closing again). However all three businesses are long gone now memory lane? And if you google mr j boardman you will find many articles about him including one about how he died suddenly at age 90 inside his home... any help would be greatly appreciated! Asmirar had its own school until 1927 when it merged with nearby Clearwater High School . After that year most kids attending Clearwater schools went onto either Hillsboro or St Pete high schools . There were also a few students who attended Grady Memorial Hospital although those days are long gone . Nowadays only a couple people live here and most everyone else lives elsewhere within reach Accordingto Census data from 2000 there were 999 people living here but that number has decreased steadily over time probably due mainly to annexation by neighboring cities like Sunrise and Pompano Beachthus reducing access to much needed landLooking east towards downtown Tampa Bay one can see two large sugar refineries just past milepost 236 heading into Saint Joseph Islandbeneath them lies Anna Maria Gulf making this area really rough water last seen being navigable around 1905 accordingto local legend those refineries produced fuel used by American destroyers during World War IInowhere are they anymore

Miramar is a town in Monroe County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami-Dade metropolitan area. The town was founded by Germans in 1887 as "Marmarock". It became known as Miramar after then-Governor of Florida Manuel L. Key named it in memory of his maternal great-grandfather, Friedrich Wilhelm Marmarossi (1819–1893). The first post office opened in Miramar on November 3, 1888. German immigrants had come to Florida following the American Civil War and began to settle around Tampa Bay. On December 12, 1887, Miramar's incorporation as a village was granted by Florida Statute 436. In 1912 it changed its name to "Marmarock" after its founder and mayor at the time, Frederick Janssen Mueller (1863–1920). In 1930s local farmers started growing oranges and other citrus crops; this led to increased business for the town's small general store and several other businesses which continued until about 1990 when deregulation caused their closures or consolidation across many industries including retailing; this left Miramar with only two businesses remaining open including one restaurant that does not serve food anymore due to health concerns from customers today After years of struggle between community groups who want more economic development and developers who see only short-term rentals being generated in what used to be an established community with a rich history now stands vacant much like so many other towns throughout America during these times; eventually new leadership came into place but little has happened since then because opposition remains strong within the community In 2018 Miramar voters passed a resolution opposing any development within city limits without first providing input from residents through zoning changes
