Miramar, Florida is a small town in Southern Florida. The population was 4,023 at the 2010 census. It is part of Miami-Dade County. The area that now comprises Miramar was annexed by what is now Miami-Dade County in 1905. The name "MiraMar" comes from Spanish meaning "Island of Mirrors." As the only barrier island located in Miami-Dade County, it became an important fishing and travel spot for early Spanish settlers who called it Isla de la Mujer (Island of the Woman). In 1845 Captain John D'towners sailed his ship "Natchez" into Freetown Harbor and anchored there for supplies before sailing upriver to Key West. He had heard about a place named Miramar on Isla de la Mujer and decided to explore it further. A few days later he landed on the beach at present day Miramar and began exploring the island which then consisted of just a few coves with coconut trees and some rocks. At first he thought this must be an uninhabited island because there were no houses or people anywhere! Captain D'towners soon realized that this must be a very beautiful place because every evening he saw bright stars above the water's surface as well as several large groups of seals which he had never seen before! He named his new discovery Isla de las Hermanas (Island of the Sisters) after two local women who lived nearby: Doña Rosalía Castro and Dona Ana Castro. Many Spaniards living in south Florida also found their way to Las Hermanas during those early years because its isolation helped keep them safe from Seminole Indians who were raiding areas near Tampa Bay. Captain D'towners returned to Key West on July 12, 1846 with news that Mexico had acquired California but not yet taken possession of Cuba so Cuban traders continued sailing upriver to America seeking passage through Santa Clara Pass between Cuba and South America instead of going through Mexico City where they would have been subject to Mexican Customs duties! This caused great excitement back home as many people believed that Spain would regain control over Cuba once California was added to their empire! After more than a year traveling downriver, Captain D'towner arrived at San Juan Bautista on October 10, 1846 with his most valuable cargo - boxfuls of gold coins!! This event started the Gold Rush in south Florida which lasted until 1850 when everything stopped due to American tariffs!) On November 1st 1847 Captain D'towner married Doña Luisa Gomez at Fort Santiago Military Academy where she also attended school while he captained her boat downriver carrying goods back up river again stopping at various places including San Pedro Sula (now Sancti Spiritus), Havana, Santiago de Compostela, Mérida etc... On December 5th 1847 they finally reached Mobile Bay where they disembarked their boat and set ashore under intense fire from all directions!!! They walked slowly uphill towards an abandoned cabin whereupon Captain D’towners discovered that Luisa was pregnant!!! They quickly got married again inside the cabin without any witnesses present except for Luisa’s parents who watched from inside! In March/April 1848 Captains D’towner & Gomez moved their family into one room inside a warehouse on Third Street in Mobile known as La Casa Blanca (The White House) due to lack of housing available outside Mobile at that time.) Today there are still remnants left behind from these earlier times including evidence such as shell middens filled with objects salvaged from captain John d'Towners sunken treasure when he lost hisboat almost 20 years ago!!!!! There are also still several churches located within walking distance or easily accessible by car or bus if you take Causeway Boulevard eastward out toward US1A)! All these sites combined form one wonderful mixture examples American Frontier life style practices reflect pre 1800 Hispanic period lifestyle

Miramar, Florida is a small town located in Palm Beach County, Florida. The population was 5,297 at the 2000 census. The town was founded in 1933 by George W. Fritch and his wife, Alma Fritch. It is now part of the Miami-Dade metropolitan area. The first settlers were Miramarians who came from Massachusetts in 1824. They began to arrive in waves over the next few years until there were about 100 people living in Miramar when it was settled on November 3, 1933 by George W. Fritch and his wife Alma Fritch with the help of two other men, John Hennigan and Homer Laughlin Jr.. In 1936, Miramar became a city under the name of Coral Gables; however this change did not last long as Coral Gables merged with Dania Beach on May 14, 1941 to form Miami-Dade County. The post office opened at Miramar on October 1st, 1934 and served residents of both cities for just over one year before being discontinued due to low mail volume between the two municipalities combined. In 1935, Alma Fritch started a school which would become known as "The School House" after she moved into it with her three children from her previous marriage: Vernon (now Viera), Donald (now Donatella), and Hillary (now Hillary). The first students graduated from that school on May 9th of that year which marked an important milestone for the community as well as its future growth because many more families would follow suit thereafter. This school also served as home to Palm Beach County's very first high school which graduated its first class in 1943; making Miramar one of only two communities statewide to have such a distinction! An interesting fact about this early history is that all four founders are buried together inside "The School House." In 1937- 1938 during World War II some local troops got called up for service and had to leave their homes temporarily so they could be trained at Fort Myers Naval Air Station where they eventually completed their training but never returned home again! After Pearl Harbor it became clear America was going through war so Alma decided her kids should have something special reserved for them when they turned eighteen instead of waiting until they turned twenty like everyone else! So she set up a trust fund specifically for them which now provides scholarships at nearby De La Salle University! With such rich history behind it comes today's thriving economy composed largely of government jobs including law enforcement officers and firefighters; health professionals including surgeons and psychiatrists; along with major retailers like Macy's Department Store (the original store) along with numerous restaurants specializing in every type of cuisine imaginable! There are even some professional golfers living here these days including Bryson Fowler who has multiple times won major championships at both PGA Tour events played hereabouts dating back to 1992! Although its size may make it seem less diversely oriented than neighboring towns such as Boca Raton or West Palm Beach - overallMiramar has done quite well given its humble beginnings!
Miramar was founded in 1892 by John W. Miramar and his wife, Sarah. The Miramar Plantation was first settled in 1857 by pioneers of the Florida Keys community of Key West. In 1892, John W. Miramar purchased the land from Captain Pedro Rivera and built a home on it. The family operated the plantation until 1972 when it passed to their son-in-law, Armand Toussaint, Jr., who sold it to an investment group led by future Governor Jeb Bush in 1984. The plantation then became known as the Toussaint Estate and is now a museum open to the public.
