In 1957, Rear Admiral Arthur Wohl established the Naval Air StationMiramar as an important part of the American military presence in South Florida. NAS Miramar played a lead role in developing jet aircraft during the Cold War and continues to do so today. NAS Miramar also provides training for pilots and aircrews from all over North America and Europe. In 1984, NAS Miramontero was renamed USS Coral Sea (CV-43). This significant honor came about because CV-43 was one of two destroyers that were used by Marines serving with Operation Desert Storm against Saddam Hussein’s Iraq Army on April 6th 1991. The other destroyer was USS Enterprise (CVN-65) which carried no Marines but served as part of Task Force 53 located off Kuwaiti coast looking for Iraqi nuclear weapons sites after they were discovered by US intelligence satellites early that year

Miramar, Florida is a small town in southwestern Sarasota County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Sarasota-Bradenton metropolitan area. The first Europeans to arrive in Miramar were French traders and missionaries who built Fort Caroline in 1795 on an island in the bay that now forms Miramar Beach. A year later Spanish settlers arrived with their families and began farming land around what is now downtown Miramar. In 1827 Englishman John Cranch bought land east of downtown from Spain for £3 per acre (the equivalent of $ ). By 1830 he had organized a company to purchase more land and build a new town called "Carrion Hill", which became known as Miramar due to its lack of trees and plant life. In 1881 Miami developer James Pritzker purchased Carrion Hill from John Cranch for $4 million . He renamed it "Miramar" after his home state of Illinois, where he had grown up. Pritzkers developed the town into an economic powerhouse with wide avenues bisected by shopping centers, hotels, and apartment buildings. The city's skyline today owes much to Pritzker's work: One continuous high-rise block—known as "The Tower"—was built between 1959 and 1961 when Interstate 95 was being constructed through central Sarasota County; it remains one of the most recognizable features of Miramar. In 1965 business magnate Leonard Lauder acquired 154 acres (6 hectares) east of downtown from Pritzker for $225,000 (). Lauder eventually dedicated this land to creating what is now Walt Disney World Park - one of only two such purchases made by Walt Disney himself (). With its theme parks, waterparks, golf courses, hospitals/medical centers and other attractions – including several major world wars memorials – Walt Disney World Park has been one of the most successful tourist destinations in America since its opening in 1971

In 1821, Miramar was named after Pedro Menendez de Avila, captain of an expedition that sailed from Havana to Key West. In 1892, Miramar became a city with boundaries drawn by then Mayor John Hylan. By 1916, when it became a U.S. Naval Air Station (NAS), Miramar had more than 12,000 residents and operated two fighter aircraft carriers and twelve naval vessels totaling over 100 boats including twenty submarines!
