The Navy has a rich history in Miramar, Florida. The first navy ship to come to the area was the USS Constitution, which arrived in 1821. The USS Constitution played an important role in the Second Seminole War and was later used as a flagship for Commodore John Rodgers during the American Revolution. After the war, the Constitution was decommissioned and sold to Miramar citizens in 1848. In 1861, Miramar became an important port on Tampa Bay when Confederate General Robert E. Lee decided to move his army from Virginia to invading Florida. The navy helped blockade Lee's army while we transported supplies and reinforcements across Tampa Bay. In 1922, Admiral James Forrestal became Commanding Officer of Naval Station Miramar after serving as Commander-in-Chief of United States Fleet at Sea during World War I. He served as Rear Admiral until he was promoted to Admiral in 1927 and served as Commandant of Naval Academy until his retirement in 1935. Admiral Forrestal is considered one of America's most successful naval commanders. During World War II,Miramar saw its biggest military commitment ever when it became home to Naval Air Station Miramar (NASMir). NASMir was responsible for providing air support for Allied forces fighting against Nazi Germany during World War II. NASMir also provided training for future naval officers and leaders who would play an important role in postwar America’s defense system. After WWII, NASMir transitioned into a civilian airport with passenger service starting in 1946. In 1977, NASMir became part of Miami-Dade County Airport Authority and remains today one of Miami’s premier airportsserving both passengers and cargo airlines worldwide with over 12 million passengers per year!

Miramar, Florida is a small town in Pasco County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tampa–St Petersburg–Clearwater metropolitan area. The first European to set foot in what is now Miramar was José de la Garza who landed on its beachfront in 1795. After years of development and growth, Miramar became a community with its own school system and library in 1905. In the 1920s it became an important military post for defense of Tampa Bay; during World War II it played host to more than 50 naval vessels off its beaches. In 1987, Miramar annexed land from Stonington Township to become a separate municipality within Pasco County. Today Miramar remains an agricultural center with fruit trees and vegetables production accounting for most of the town's economic activity; however, recent years have seen some growth in retail businesses as well as tourism (mainly due to nearby Clearwater Beach).
