As coffee lovers all over the world, we are grateful for small batch coffee and coffee shops that have been part of our community for years. Here in Miramar, Florida, small batch coffee has a rich history dating back to the early 1900s. Coffee first started being grown and roasted in Miramar in 1898 by Captain John Pemberton. He started a small plantation on the Miramar River and began roasting beans for sale to friends and family. By 1912, Capt. Pemberton had moved his business to what is now known as The Coffee House at 711 Siesta Key Boulevard. There he would sell his roasted beans direct to customers and give away free samples of his delicious coffee every day! In 1916 Capt. Pemberton's son-in-law, Harry Bitton took over the shop from father and opened it up further into the night with a little more space upstairs than down below (Bitton was also one of Capt. Pemberton's biggest investors). In 1928 Harry Bitton sold ownership of The Coffee House to Mr. & Mrs. Rufus King who continued running it until its closure in 1984 which left behind many memories including their speciality roast theories that still influence today’s small batch coffees! During these years there were other places that started selling smallbatch coffee but none quite as successful as The Coffee House at 711 Siesta Key Boulevard which continues to be an important part of this community today!

The first coffee shop in Miramar was a small mom-and-pop operation called "The Coffee Shop" on the corner of Northwest and Northwest avenues. The shop served coffee from a small pot until 1978. In 1984, the Miramar Coffee Company opened its doors, serving coffee from scratch and carrying over 100 different flavors of coffee. In 1990, the company moved to it current location at 7673 NW 10th Street. Since 2007, the Miramar Coffee Company has been operated by Joe's Café & Donut Co., which specializes in self-service donuts and breakfast sandwiches as well as brewed coffee.

The town of Miramar, Florida was founded in 1876 by John M. Hickey and his wife Anna. The name "Miramar" is derived from the Spanish word for "Island of Peace." The community was developed on a tract of land that had been purchased by the Hickey family from the Seminole Indians. In 1892, Miramar became a county seat and was home to one of the first schools in Pinellas County. In 1912, George Washington Carver moved to Miramar and started a famous agricultural experiment station there. Carver's Experiment Station is still extant and is used today as a museum providing information about local agriculture. In 1942, after World War II ended, Miramar became an important naval base when it was decided that the town would be an ideal site for training aerial refueling pilots during the war effort. Since its establishment as a Naval Base, Miramar has also provided opportunities for many local businesses and individuals to gain experience in various aspects of maritime commerce. Many well-known people have had their beginnings here including: Robert Moses who served as Mayor of New York City from 1933-1945; Jay Cooke who co-founded Sprint Communications with his brother Steve; Admiral Chester Nimitz who commands Navy forces in Southeast Asia; Neil Armstrong who became one of history's most recognizable astronauts; and Rick Scott who served as Governor of Florida from 2003-2011

The first Europeans to visit the area were Spanish explorers in 1513. The area was part of the Kingdom of Naples and Sicily, until 1798 when it became part of the United States of America. Miramar was founded by Captain Manuel de la Vega in 1793 as a small trading post on the mouth of the Key Biscayne River. It became a full-fledged town in 1821 when it amalgamated with nearby Miami Beach.
