The Mount Dora Army National Guard Infantry Battalion (In) was activated on November 9, 1916 and has served in various locations throughout the United States. The battalion is currently stationed at Ft. Walton Beach, Florida. This battalion was mobilized for World War I and saw combat in France, Belgium, and the Argonne Forest. After the war, they were stationed in Puerto Rico before being sent to Germany in 1923 as part of the occupation of that country. They fought during the Waco Uprising and were later reassigned to Japan when that country dissolved. They returned to the United States after World War II and served until 1973 when they merged with the Jacksonville Army National Guard Infantry Battalion (In). The Mount Dora Army National Guard Infantry Battalion (In) is unique because it was one of only two units activated for World War II which also served in Korea. Additionally, it is one of only three units in existence which still wears a blue-and-white uniform from that conflict.

In 1965, they were activated for Desert Storm and served honorably as part of the Florida Department of Military Affairs' 5th Cavalry Regiment (now 1st Battalion, 9th Cavalry Regiment). Throughout their service with this regiment, they have been stationed at Camp Lemonnier near Tripoli, Libya; Anbar Province in Iraq; Kuwait City; Bahrain; Qatar; Fallujah/Baghdad Province; Al-Anbar Province; Baghdad also known as "The city of death." The brigade has also participated in numerous exercises throughout their deployment including Livefire training at Fort Polk Louisiana and Warrior training at Fort Carson Colorado. In 1989-1990 they were activated for Gulf War I under command of 2nd Brigade Combat Team - 3rd Infantry Division (IBCT - 3ID) which fought on various frontsarrayed along Saudi Arabia’s border with Kuwait and Qatar until relieved by 4th Brigade Combat Team - 3rd Infantry Division (IBCT - 3ID) on 15 October 1990 after ISIS seized Ramadi Air Base southwest of Baghdad while coalition forces repelled an attempted counterattack by Saddam Hussein's forces from within Baghdad Airport perimeter
Mount Dora is an extinct volcano located in Brevard County, Florida. The peak of the volcano is 4,865 feet (1,500 meters) high and it has a diameter of 2 miles (3 kilometers). The mountain formed about 10 million years ago and was last active about 6,000 years ago. The name Mount Dora comes from the Spanish word for "peak." The mountain's peak was named for José de la Torre, who surveyed the area in 1793. La Torre made maps of the area which are still used today to identify different parts of Brevard County. Mount Dora is a popular tourist destination because of its interesting geological features and scenic views. Visitors can climb up to the summit or take walks around the perimeter of the volcano. There are also several restaurants and bars on-site that serve food and drinks from 9am to 11pm. There are also several hiking trails available that lead visitors away from Mount Dora. These trails include: Hiking Trail #1 which leads up to Lookout Point; Hiking Trail #2 which climbs around Mount Dora; Hiking Trail #3 which takes you down to Doña Ana Bay; and Hiking Trails #4-5 which lead you through pine forests and past waterfalls.
