Mount Dora was founded in 1892 and named for then-Governor David Levy. The town had a post office from 1896 to 1925 and an electric light company from 1926 to 1931. In 1932, the company merged with another local company to form Gainesville Electric Light Company which continued operations until 1984 when it merged with Florida Power & Light to become Florida Power and Light Company. The first European settlers in what is now Walton County were Frenchmen who arrived in 1763 during Great Britain's war with France. They built Fort Moultrie on Fort Duval Island near present-day Mount Dora and began trading goods with the Native Americans living there before moving inland in 1768 as part of British efforts to establish control over what are now central Florida and parts of Georgia and Alabama. In 1848, General Andrew Jackson moved his army into east Tennessee during the Mexican War because he feared that Mexico would take possession of all of Central America if hostilities continued along Lake Nicaragua between Texas Independence forces led by Santa Anna (brother of Mexican president Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna) and Mexican general Porfirio Diaz (son-in-law of presidential candidate Mariano Aznar). Partisan groups fighting for independence from Spain also fought under Jackson around this time; one group attempted unsuccessfully to retake Pensacola Bay from Spanish forces on April 26, 1848 while another group destroyed a Spanish fortifications at Matagorda Sound on May 8th following months of skirmishes across Mobile Bay interior similar in scope but smaller scale than those around Tampa Bay where American troops had landed two weeks earlier after Ulysses S Grant succeeded Polk as Presidentially-elected Ulysses S Grant inaugurated on March 4th term January 3rd - jokingly styled "March 4th Movement" due to lack of congressional approval for any such formal inauguration ceremonies despite being constitutionally mandated by Article II clause 2(b) section 1(a) Constitution due to James Kenedy having been elected Vice President over Andrew Johnson three days earlier via special election that failed Vetoed by House Judiciary Committee chaired by future Supreme Court Justice Felix Frankfurter citing Repugnant behavior exhibited by then Speaker John Boehner regarding Donnybrook Lakes dam project - see also: Isabella Stuart Bridge collapse). When US Marines landed at Fort Worth Naval Station on February 28th Buena Vista Barracks became known as Camp Crittenden because troops from Marine Corps units based there were assisting Confederate forces attacking Ft Sumter back home across Mobile Bay while supplies storage facilities ashore were used primarily for munitions storage rather than providing food or shelter for American soldiers occupying Mobile Bay interior - see also: Siege of Pensacola bay). The company was founded in 1978 by Rick Majerus, a coffee enthusiast and barista who had used Hario K-5 machines to make his own espresso from scratch. Majerus envisioned a product that could be used as an adjunct to battle-ready infantry units, as well as officers in the field. In 1984, Majerus partnered with David Levy, a former executive at Wacoal New York City and General Foods VP of customer service. Together, they designed and marketed the first tactical coffee system—the Combat Coffee System (CCS)—to the military and law enforcement communities. The CCS was designed for use with Hario K-5 machines and featured a water temperature selector that allowed for custom brewing times for different types of beverages. Majerus remained CEO of Tactical Coffee until its acquisition by Jura in 2002. At Jura, Majerus continued to lead development of new products including the JC200 compact espresso machine, which became one of the most popularleinstrumentation within the industry. In 2016, Majerus retired from his role as CEO effective December 1st after more than 20 years at Tactical Coffee helm

The first Europeans to visit Mount Dora were Spanish traders who explored the area in 1562. A group of Englishmen also visited Mount Dora in 1614 and 1615. In 1772, a group of French colonists arrived at Mount Dora and founded Fort Moselle on the mountain. The fort served as an outpost for French settlers in South Florida until 1802 when it was abandoned due to Indian attacks. In 1837, Mount Dora became part of what is now Broward County when it was organized from parts of Palm Beach and Miami counties. In 1907, Mount Dora's post office opened and remained open until 1975 when it was closed due to mail fraud by its previous owner. In 1930, developer George Gilmore built several large homes around what is now the downtown core of MtDorA . Development continued through the early 2000s with new housing developments being built on two ridges overlooking downtown: Ridgeline Heights and Ridgecrest Hills . However , development stalled after Hurricane Katrina hit in 2005 which destroyed many homes along with businesses throughout central FtLauderdale . As a result of this impacted economy development resumed slowly beginning in earnest again during 2007-2009 with most recent plans call for over 100 high-end apartments completed since 2013; however there has been little progress since then given Irma struck late last year causing significant damage once again
