The Naples, Florida Army Garrison was established in 1892 as a way for the citizens of Naples to show their support for the military. The Garrison provided services such as education and recreation for the soldiers and their families. The military also played an important role in local civic life. During World War II, the Garrison was transformed into a dependable supply depot for the Department of Defense. In 1995, the Garrison merged with other government agencies to become part of Homeland Defense Services Agency-Florida (HDSA-FL). Today, HDSA-FL provides security and public safety functions at both our civilian and military sites throughout Florida.

In Naples, Florida, the United States Army founded Fort Myers in 1898. The city of Naples was then annexed by Fort Myers and became the Garrison District. In 1903, the United States Army withdrew from the Garrison District and Fort Myers became an independent military installation. The U.S. Army moved out of Fort Myers in 1945 and the installation was decommissioned in 1951. Today, there is no evidence that any American troops ever lived or fought at Fort Myers.
Noah and his family moved to Naples, Florida in 1999. From their first home they were blessed with a beautiful garden that Noah could explore at will. Today their home is one of the most well-maintained properties in Naples and they enjoy spending time there as much as possible. They have two children, Aiden and Evelyn, and three grandchildren: Owen, Isabella, and Tallia. Noah has always been interested in history and discovered an interest in Naples through its connection to the American Revolution when he was a student at USF. He researched the city’s role in that period of history while working on his master’s degree at The University of Texas at Austin. After completing his studies, he decided to move to Naples so that he could live among its people and learn more about this important part of American history. Today, Natelson lives primarily off property rights (he does occasionally visit friends), but spends ample time exploring the city’s historical sites on foot or by bike – including stops at Independence Hall, Fort Adams (the site where George Washington met with Lafayette), Mount Rushmore National Monument, Yankee Stadium, etc. His love for history has not only led him to become involved with many local organizations such as The Historical Society of Naples &Marco Island; but also led him into contact with some of the most famous historical figures from America – like Abraham Lincoln! In addition to learning about American history from some of America’s greatest leaders, Natelson is also able to share that knowledge with students through hands-on activities during museum visits or field trips alike!
