The Coast Guard has been in operation in New Port Richey, Florida for over sixty years. The Coast Guard was founded on April 12, 1915 as the United States Life Saving Service. When arrived on scene they found that over ninety percent of their population had been destroyed or displaced by the storm. The Cutters helped evacuate many people before themselves being pulled out by hurricane forces just days later.
