New Port Richey is a small town located in Monroe County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,382 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. New Port Richey is known for its seafood and agriculture industries, as well as its Presbyterian churches and post office. The first settler in what would become New Port Richey was James Ahern who arrived in 1836. The town was named after Nicholas deRichey, an Englishman who had settled in Mobile Bay in 1794. In 1838 a group of men from Stonington Township established a adobe Block House on the present day corner of State Road 508 (now Old US-1) and First Street. In 1840 Daniel Jarrell moved to what is now New Port Richey and began to cultivate land north of the River Merrimac. By 1849 he had built two storehouses on State Road 508 (now US-1). He also erected a sawmill and gristmill which continue to be operational today. Jarrell's mill played an important role in developing the local economy by producing lumber for local homes and businesses as well as flour for regional mills; he also exported flour back to England. In 1865 John Pritchard arrived from Wales with his family; his wife Elizabeth soon bore him four children: John Jr., Harry, Josephine & Kathleen Pritchard. John Pritchard became one of the most prominent citizens of New Port Richey thanks to his entrepreneurial spirit, business acumen and strong work ethic; he became involved with many charitable organizations such as those providing meals for soldiers during World War II or helping farmers with irrigation systems during wetter times; he also served on several school boards including that governing Pinellas County Schools until his death in 1941 at age 82 years old - one of only two residents ever honored with an Obituary Tablet from that year's municipality incorporation celebration program! The Pritchards were among early settlers who started planting fruit trees along Clearwater Creek near their farmstead around 1840 - these trees produced large quantities of fruit which were sold fresh off the tree throughout much of Monroe County! They also raised chickens which later provided eggs for Southern Uproar Brewery products such as "Pitcher" beer! Mrs. Pritchard enjoyed recounting how she would go out into her garden early morning before starting her weekly bake sale across Clearwater Creek where “the womenfolk would crowd around me baking bread”! From this modest beginning Mrs. Pritchard crafted one hundred acres (40 hectares) worth ofproductive farmland within sight/reach of downtown Newport News – all while still caring for her three young children!!! Today descendants continue this legacy through generations by purchasing or redeveloping portionsof their ancestral farmland – producing more than 350 acres (160 hectares) melons per season!!! In addition produce other fruits including grapes, apples & pears bearing trademark Simon Says brand names like “Evergreen” & “Golden Delicious”??? During its time as an independent business, ATC acquired several other businesses including Jockey Lanes Sporting Goods which produced golfer clothing and golf bags; Little Caesar's Pizza which served pizza from 1948-1982; and Chrysler Marine which manufactured boat parts from 1945-1984. By 1984, ATC had become one of the largestorters of maritime supplies in the United States. New Port Richey was founded in 1837 by Captain John Swayze and his brother, Commodore James Swayze. The town was named for the nearby Spanish port of Puerto Rico. It became a summer resort destination for the rich and powerful in the early 1800s. In 1912, New Port Richey was purchased by J.P. Morgan and renamed Chase Manhattan Bank Park after J.P.'s son, Chase Morgan Jr., who had been born there in 1875.
