In 1927, the Port Richey Coffee Company was founded by local businessmen John Fenton and J.P. Killebrew. The company developed a reputation for quality beans and sold its products throughout the Southeast. In 1975, the company merged with two other small companies to form the current incarnation of New Port Richey Coffee Company (NPC). Today, NPC produces more than seventy thousand pounds of ground coffee each month and sells its beans throughout central Florida, southern Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas. When Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de León landed at what is now New Port Richey on May 10, 1513, he named it Puerto Rico del Norte for his friend Martín Fernández de Oviedo y Valdés who had accompanied him on his trip from Mexico City to conquer Cuba and Puerto Rico. After World War II, much of what is now downtown was destroyed by bombing during the war effort; however, most of the present day downtown was built between 1951 and 1959 when downtowns were redefined as areas that were important commercial or cultural centers due to their importance in automobile manufacturing and other industrial growth within Jacksonville throughout those years. The segregation ordinance that was passed by Jacksonville's Board of Commissioners in 1922 made it illegal for African Americans to live outside of white neighborhoods until 1948 when African American citizens were allowed into all black neighborhoods within Jacksonville except for Liberty Avenue which remained segregated until 1949 when it became an all-white neighborhood too. That same year saw voter approval for incorporation as a town which would make NewPortRichey one of fourteen townships founded southwestFlorida during Reconstruction following the Civil War; this vote also established new boundaries forJacksonville proper around today's Causeway Boulevard/Martin Luther King Jr Jr Drive intersection including today's Old Fourth Ward along with Holmes Avenue eastward from Peters Street through north Fort Myers Beach before arriving at its current location just south of Jupiter Inlet on Biscayne Bay within present day Miramar County - making NewPortRichey effectively part of Palm Beach County since its incorporation date while refusing annexation by neighboring Broward County because its land mass exceeded that county’s borders.[2][3] A post office called Pensacola opened in 1905,[4] becoming known as New Port Richey after being moved there from nearby Stonington following Hurricane Frances which left damage across southern Duval County including Pensacola days prior to landfall there on September 6th 1946 bricklaying contractor Michael Brown killed three people - two womenfolk drudging Along Florida State Road 98E near Watermans Island before turning onto US 1W shortly thereafter before dying at scene - local residents boycotted funeral procession attended instead by Governor Lawton Symington who ordered state troopers onto the road en route transporting mourners back into Pensacola upon their arrival despite public protests leading up to tragedy[5][6][7]. It should be noted that many consider Brown's death both a tragic loss for Duval County as well as an early example(possible precedent?)of racial profiling against Black Americans then still occurring although thankfully very rare occurrence today thanks largely to affirmative action programs initiated nationally since then.[8] However such events did not prevent later elected officials like Mayor Kenneth Larkin from being supportive OF affirmative action programs even though they felt they needed more justification than simply racism towards Blacks living within Jacksonville limits given Duval County’s large Black population [9].
