In 1916, the Koffee Klatch Coffee House was built and served iced coffee, hot coffee, and pastries. By 1922, the first store within walking distance of the beach had been established by entrepreneur Smedley Butler with his outpost located on Merrick Road. A second store followed in 1926 on Broadwalk Avenue. between Constitution Boulevard and Liberty Drive. In 1933, after years of growth, The Koffee Klatch Coffee House became one of the first stores to beowned by Jacksonville-based Jardine Matheson Holding Company which would continue to operate it until its closure in 1981. It is now part of Naples-based Levy’s Fifth Street Co., Inc., which operates other businesses nearby including a seafood restaurant called Pompano Pier that also sells coffee beans from its plantation next door to Koffee Klatch Coffee House; as well as a grocery store known as Fine Fare that sells both food items related to café history (e.g., pastries) as well as general merchandise like toys and cars.

New Smyrna Beach is a community located in the county of Brevard, Florida. The town was established in 1892 by men from Jacksonville, Florida and it is served by the New Smyrna Beach Police Department. As of the 2010 census, the population of New Smyrna Beach was 10,033. The area now known as New Smyrna Beach was originally called Indian Harbour and its first white settler was Captain John C. Mayfield who arrived in 1835. In 1840, another white man named James Purdy built a cabin on what is now State Road 1 south of today's intersection with US Highway 98. By 1848, there were at least 20 businesses and 100 residents living in Indian Harbour. After Jacksonville passed through an act providing for Suffrage for Negroes in 1895, many black families moved to New Smyrna Beach to vote during that decade because they could not find homes elsewhere within range of their plantations or churches. In 1893, developer Jepson bought 1/2 acre (0 hectares) of land at the mouth of Indian Harbor Creek from Dempsey Brothers for $1 per lot and began development which would eventually include 3 blockslong streets grid-wise with 4-6 stories each on broad lots measuring 220-300 feet wide and extending into the bayou beyond; 12 single family homes completed between 1896-1900; 2 multi-family dwellings consisting of 8 apartments completed 1903-1904; WWI munitions plant constructed 1916 & 1917 (renamed Gulf Refineries after WWII); new post office opened 1922 and continued operations until 1949; Naval Navy Yard Constructed 1935 creating jobs & naval housing near pier entrance along SR 1} After World War II ended & while still under construction - Hurricane Andrew destroyed much waterfront property Juliana Lighthouse 1912 also relocated to NW part of town name Separate branch courthouse established 1945 As part as any community effort to welcome returning veterans - schools were erected 1915 (& 1919), jail constructed 1919 (& 1924), fire station 1914 (& 1926)}; local businesses such as grocery stores proliferated postwar including 6 Pizza Hut locations 1942 thru 1951} As residential areas continue suburbanization began with numerous subdivisions planned throughout 1960s although some residents voted against it - city services like water & sewer service remain municipally run today } Today’s economy is based largely on professional / commercial services provided by Gulf County Government although overall support remains strong due primarily to volunteerism The history behind New Smyrna Beach can be traced back to 1892 when Jacksonville businessmen James Purdy and Julius Dempsey founded Indian Harbour Plantation on what is now State Road 1 south of today's intersection with US Highway 98. At that time this area consisted onlyof swampy ground covered in trees where fishing was common due to abundant fish resources present within just a few miles upstream from where the community currently stands. The village soon grew larger than Jacksonville itself thanks largely to its citizens' dedication towards civic activities such as hosting weekly picnics, playing music at street fairs or attended social events outdoors several times each weeknight throughout summer months. Among these gatherings were political rallies where suffrage speeches were given or debates about important issues concerning Jarvis County were had among those gathered around a campfire eveningetically known as "the fireside chat". These meetups also helped foster close relationships among various members which continue even into this day...... During World War I Captain John C Mayfield enlisted with the United States Marine Corps before moving his family back home permanently toIndian Harbour in 1916 after being discharged from military service following America's entry into World War I.......By 1922 all ashore military activity had ceased so that new offices could be built inland adjacentto existing Naval Navy Yard which housed munitions plants during WWI..........In 1945 Hurricane Andrew destroyed much waterfront property surroundingStronghold Landing Marina making way for separate branch courthouse established here.....This courthouse remained operational until 1949adepating later becoming School District number 5th Judicial Circuit Court Annex.........Today’s economy remains heavily reliant upon professional / commercial services provided by Gulf County Government although overall support remains strong due primarilyto volunteerism
New Smyrna Beach was first settled in 1854 by brothers Augustus and George P. Robinson. The town was named for the then-new, but still underdeveloped, community of Smyrna on the Georgia coast. In 1875, New Smyrna Beach became a county seat of Marion County after being moved from nearby Fort Myers. In 1907, Raymond Fenton bought 1/4 acre of land in what is now downtown New Smyrna Beach and began to build a small wooden cottage which he called "The Fenton House". He served as its first mayor from 1907 to 1912. In 1917, he donated the house and land to the City of New Smyrna Beach for use as its city hall. It has been used as city hall ever since. In 1927, Fernandina Beaches Improvement Company was established to improve the beach area around New Smyrna Beach. It developed an artificial beach called Fernandina's Bay which remains today one of the most popular beaches in Florida. In 1938, DonatellO had his statue erected on Main Street in honor of his father who had died only two years earlier at age 52 while serving in World War II with the United States Army Air Forces at Tuskegee Airmen flying base near Gainesville Alabama
