The New Smyrna Beach Naval Base has been a part of the United States Navy for over eighty years. It is home to the USS Constitution Museum and Library, as well as many other naval units. The base is also home to some of the most advanced weapons in the world, including two aircraft carriers and two submarines.
The city of New Smyrna Beach, Florida was founded on December 12, 1892 by a group of entrepreneurs who were looking for a place to establish trade and commerce. The founders of the city were businessmen Julius Caesar White and Abel Valentine Moody. New Smyrna Beach quickly became known as a popular tourist destination for its beauty, amenities, and warm climate. The city has grown steadily over the years, reaching its current size in 2002. New Smyrna Beach is located on the Gulf of Mexico in Brevard County, Florida. The town was founded by soldiers and traders who came to the area in 1835 to trade goods with the Indians. It became a summer resort during the late 1800s and early 1900s. New Smyrna Beach was incorporated as a city in 1907. The city was consolidated with nearby Melbourne in 1923 and renamed Miami-Dade County. In 2003, New Smyrna Beach was designated a National Historic Landmark for its role in maritime history.
