Niceville is a small city located in Jacksonville County, Florida, United States. The population was 491 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville–St. Johns metropolitan area and lies on the Gulf Coast about thirty miles southeast of Tampa, Florida. Niceville was founded in 1892 by J.W. Goodyear as a railroad town on the old Mobile and Alabama Railroad mainline east of Clearwater Beach. The community grew rapidly due to its location along the Panama Canal and its access to fresh water resources from nearby springs and rivers. In 1925, Niceville became one of three cities within Jacksonville County designated for development as an ''open-air central business district''. This designation made it easier for businesses to locate in an undeveloped area near public transportation and other services that would attract customers. In 1935, after years of planning, construction began on what is now known as Enterprise Boulevard which connected Niceville with downtown Jacksonville via a bypass road (today's John F Kennedy Boulevard). The bypass road opened in 1937 and quickly became one of the most important commercial streets in Jacksonville; it remains so today. A second bypass road (now Veterans Memorial Parkway) was built parallel to Enterprise Boulevard between 1949 and 1951; this roadway served as an arterial artery connecting both sides of Niceville with newer subdivisions that had been developed north/west of town along present-day I-95 corridor south of Interstate 434 (the initial alignment of US 301). The growth of suburban living around Niceville during the late 1960s caused some local developers to develop new neighborhoods outside the city limits; these developments are still visible today around Enterprise Boulevard east of town near US 301 exit 5A

Niceville is a town in Leon County, Florida, United States. The population was 3,895 at the 2010 census. Niceville was founded in 1892 as a small agricultural community on the banks of the Suwannee River. It became an important military and naval base during World War II, and since then has become a popular tourist destination with its many shopping malls and attractions. The town was incorporated on November 15, 1892 by A.P. Hammond and Wm.F. Smith and named after Charlotte Amalie of Holland who had visited the area in 1881 while en route to Jacksonville for her brother's wedding there that year. The first post office opened in 1895, named for Miss Amalie Hammond's maternal grandmother (née de la Motte). In 1906, Niceville annexed the neighboring towns of West Orange and East Bradenton; these annexations were made effective January 1, 1907 under Act No., 1909 entitled "An act to improve certain aspects of life in Leon County". In 1893–1894, General John J Pershing visiting Fort Myers sent orders to his headquarters at Camp Dodge ordering all U .S . forces east of Lake Okeechobee be subordinated to him under command of Major General James Fauntleroy except those supporting Rear Admiral David Farragut's expedition up the St Simons River which continued under Commodore David Dixon Porter headed by Commodore John Prentice Nelson behind Farragut's lines at Fort Myers Accordingly most troops quartered along US-1 between Naples and Gainesville turned their backs upon Niceville while they awaited orders from higher up not to cross into Florida but march through Pensacola Bay to Port Tampa only to find out that they had been misled about what was happening northward so when they got there reinforcements arrived before they could reach any operational role
