Niceville is a small town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 5,483 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Orlando-Kissimmee-Lakeland, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area. Niceville was founded in 1892 as a small farming community on the east side of Bay Lake by George Nice and his wife Mabel. In 1907 it became a post office with ZIP code 32714. Niceville's first school was built on land donated by Mrs. J.F. Smith in 1914 and named for her husband General James Fenton Smith who had fought in World War I and then served as Mayor of Jacksonville from 1922 to 1924. The Nicevilles also operated a grocery store until 1954 when they moved their business to Kissimmee Boulevard which still stands today as the town's only commercial structure other than some homes or businesses that were built along Bay Lake Road during the early 1920s (these structures are now used for storage). When Interstate 95 was built through this area in 1959, Niceville lost its status as an unincorporated community and became part of Kissimmee Township.[1] In recent years, however, residents have started to revive their interest in keeping their old village intact by hosting annual Festivals such as "NICEVILLEDays" which celebrate various aspects of life including music, art, history and culture within its walls; playinghost to many local events throughout the year; selling handmade crafts from local artists during ArtWalk weekends;[2]and publications such as "The Village Voice" magazine's "Living History Exhibit" which document activities taking place within its walls every week or so (most recently concluding its sixth season this past May). Today's Niceville is located just south of State Road 948 between US 1/A north and US 1/B south (the original routing), about 2 miles west of virtue island across bay lake from where Kissimmee Boulevard began - one mile inside mainland Polk County before turning northwest into Bay Lake itself - making it easily accessible from both Orlando International Airport and Tampa International Airport without having to leave town limits! The once small but vibrant community now has over 100 active businesses,[3] ranging from professional services companies such as law firms[4][5][6], medical centers[7][8][9][10] and accounting firms[11],[12] to midrange retailers[13], two churches,[14],[15]'s four convenience stores,[16]'s six restaurants,[17],[18]'s four bars & grill restaurants[](*)(*)', three home Builders', two boat builders','one carpenter','one plumber'; eighteen antique stores ', five pet shops ', eleven caterers ', ten wedding planners [/*](*)'. A wide variety of mostly locally made products makes up much of what residents enjoy shopping at these businesses: baked goodsfrom several hundred bakeries near downtown; fresh fruits & vegetables available at most ubiquitous supermarkets nearby including Publix [(15); Kroger [(16)]; Safeway [(17)]; Walmart [(18)]; Sam’s Club *(19)];;candlesfrom numerous candlemakers scattered around town'; handbags., purses., boots.; home decor items like pottery,, woodcarving ]; toysfrom dozens upon dozens OF toy manufacturers scattered throughout Central Florida;; 'gift' items like Christmas cookies:, candy bars*, chocolates*(*)(*)'. With more than 2 million visitors annually coming through airport exits nearest downtown Kissimmee Beach alone - ranked number one among major U.S airports for passenger traffic growth since 2000 [*] - there is no doubt thatNiceville has become one Of America's favorite tourist destinations!

Niceville is a small city in Polk County, Florida, United States. It was founded on October 1, 1892 by George Washington Smith and his family. The population was 3,000 at the 2010 census. Niceville is the home of the Polk County Museum of History and Art. The town started as a small settlement called "Newburgh" on the east bank of Intracoastal River near present-day Jacksonville. In 1892, George Washington Smith and his family moved to Niceville from Jacksonville after their farm failed to take off. The original town site included only a few aid homes for settlers who had recently arrived in what was then Polk County. By 1903, Niceville had grown to about 3,000 residents with ample businesses and services available for its citizens. In 1906, the first school in Niceville opened followed by a municipal hall that same year. A new water tower was built in 1912 which still stands today and serves as both the town's water supply AND local museum; also known as "The Water Tower." By 1928, when it merged into Jacksonville Township (later Clearwater), Niceville had reached its peak population with over 10,000 people living there within an urban area size of just under two square miles! In 1933-34 however, due to increasing social problems such as racial discrimination against African Americans (and later Latinos), things began to unravel in Niceville – slowly but surely until finally an all out race riots erupted on December 12th 1934: What began as peaceful demonstrations soon turned violent when white supremacists tried to block black people from coming into town during lunchtime; tragically resulting in more than 50 killed including 20 sheriff's deputies and three militia members serving with distinction during this trying time period for our community & country!!! 1) Hurricane Andrew destroyed most of downtown Jacksonville on August 26th 1992 so niceVILLE took some time catching up 2) plummets into depths from highlands caused flooding throughout much of central part of county -niceVILLE got back up quickly though lots went unpaved & many homes were lost c&c1992 FEMA disaster response team
Named for General Andrew Johnson, Niceville was founded in 1837 as a small town on the west coast of Florida. The town quickly became a major trading center for sugar and other goods shipped from Cuba and the Caribbean.
