Niceville is a city located in the Gulf of Mexico, about 30 miles (48 km) south of Mobile, Alabama. The population was 7,752 as of the 2010 census. It is the county seat for Bibb County. The area that now makes up Niceville was first settled by Apalachians in the early 1800s and was known as "Natcheville" after General Andrew Jackson's retreat from Fort Donelson in 1812. The town name probably derived from an Indian word meaning "place where travellers stop." By 1900 Niceville had become a major southern cotton port with ships loading and unloading cotton bales at various docks on Bayou Teche. In 1957 Niceville experienced its worst natural disaster when severe hurricanes Harriet and Wilma forced extensive damage to homes, businesses and roads within the city limits which left over 400 people homeless or without food or water for days on end. The post-hurricane reconstruction effort was expensive but well worth it when seen in relation to current trends in local crime rates which have plummeted since then!

Niceville, Florida is a small town located in Duval County, Florida, United States. The population was 5,569 at the 2010 census. Niceville is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. The townsite was founded on November 24, 1892 by J.P. Morgan and Wm. Hays as a result of the consolidation of several small villages in Duval County. It became an incorporated village on December 10, 1907 under the name of "Newport." On June 15, 1912, it merged with nearby Plantation to form what would become Niceville proper. The original town site extended from present-day Allmond Avenue south to Indian Key Boulevard and east to Holmes Road; it included only a single block of land north of Indian Key Boulevard and one block south of Holmes Road (the present day intersection of Allmond Avenue and Holmes Road). In 1893, after years of discussion between Morgan and Hays about where to locate their new townsite – which would include most or all of what is now Niceville – they decided upon a site just east of modern day Highway 1 within current-day Duval County limits; this location would allow for easy access to bothland resources (such as pine trees) and water supplies (which were then available only through boat trips). On November 24th 1892 the first sod was cut for the new townsite – adjacent to property that currently forms partof niceville's eastern border –and formal dedication ceremonies were held by Mayor John Auld at his home on Court Street in Newport Beach early next morning. The following day another ceremony took place at New Port's old schoolhouse: local businessmen James Fenton and John Tilton donated $1,000 each towards construction costs “to lay down our foundation for future greatness” asNiceville initially envisioned itself. Municipal offices were established at 1611 NE First Ave., later renamed Main Street; these structures remain today as partof Niceville's downtown core. In 1907 Newport Beach annexed neighboring Plantation so that both areas became one municipality with separate governments and sewer systems; however due to financial problems soon afterward Newport Beach disbanded its municipal government entirely while Plantation continued operations until annexation into Niceville proper again in 1913 which finally happened on May 11th 1914 when both entities agreed that they should be considered one municipality under State law due largely to economic reasons associated with WWI production efforts throughoutDuval County! It wasn't long until residents began building homes in anticipationof incorporation into either Jacksonville or Orlando but because neither city offered much opportunity for business development there was little effort put forth into developing infrastructure such as schools or streetlights etc., ultimately leaving much idle acreage across from Interstate 95 unincorporated until recent times when developers have taken up armseto bring back some life to this formerly sleepy corner!
