Some of the earliest coffee shops in North Lauderdale were The Coffee House and The Dutchman on Northwest Fourth Avenue. In 1951, Bob's Coffee Company opened its doors on Northeast Second Avenue. By the early 1960s, cluster of businesses had developed around Northeast Third Street, with many more cafes opening throughout that decade. In 1969, Bob's Coffee closed and was replaced by Joe's Café. In 1977, Donny's Coffee opened at 5471 Broward Boulevard in North Lauderdale. That same year saw the first Starbucks location open up in South Florida when it opened at 9500 NW 2nd Ave., just south of Lululemon Athletica Athletica Town Center. In 1990, Joes Cafe closed down after 50 years in business and was replaced by Maxwell’s café which also served as a pizza restaurant until 2006 when it closed again due to financial problems. In 2013-2014 Maxwell's reopened as an espresso bar called "The Catalyst" with seating for 80 people inside and outside platforms overlooking Poolside Park across from Atlantic City casino
North Lauderdale, Florida is a city located in Broward County, Florida. The population was 1,845 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Miami metropolitan area. North Lauderdale is bordered by Fort Lauderdale to the north and east, Pompano Beach to the south and west, and Boca Raton to the northwest. The name "North Lauderdale" comes from two Seminole villages called "Na-Tchalla" meaning "north of the bay" and "Lauderdale", meaning "forested land". The first Europeans to arrive in this area were Spanish explorers who traveled through this region on their way southward in 1513-1514. At that time there were no towns or settlements within present day Broward County - only scattered villages along various waterways. In 1892 oil was discovered in what would become North Lauderdale while drilling for gas near Pompano Beach. Soon afterwards citizens began popsulating this area with their families as oil production boomed. During World War II much activity took place here as many servicemen were deployed across South Florida during that conflict including many soldiers who lived and trained hereabouts; some remain buried here today in Arlington National Cemetery's nearby Soldier's Memorial Park (along with other military personnel from Palm Beach Gardens/West Palm Beach). Today North Lauderdale still features strong ties to itsoil industry heritage with numerous businesses based around it - both large and small - that contribute significantly to its economy: ChevronTexaco has operations headquarters here, Shell Oil has a major refinery complex adjacent thereto, BP produces petrochemical products here including asphalt mixers and plasticizers; Lockheed Martin manufactures electronic components here; Nordstrom Rackett operates one of South FLorida's largest department stores; Atlantic Richfield company owns a major fertilizer plant adjacent thereto (the third largest such facility in America); several medical devices companies have local plants manufacturing products here; as well as many smaller businesses which contribute substantially to its overall economic growth alluding everything from real estate agents and carpenters to restaurants and retailers... In short, North Lauderdale is an important community not just because it houses some of South Florida’s most iconic businesses but also because it provides essential services – such as education, healthcare, policing, infrastructure development – that make life easier for residents throughout Broward County."

Today, the company remains a major player in the coffee industry with over 1,000 employees worldwide. Schleicher & Hofmann Coffee Company began production of quality espresso and cappuccino beans in 1892. Originally located in Dusseldorf, Germany, the company soon relocated to Switzerland after becoming successful in sales and exporting their beans abroad. In 1916, The Schleicher & Hofmann Coffee Company opened its first café on Rue de la Paix in Paris. The café continued to serve up delicious espresso and cappuccinos until it closed its doors in 1982. Today, thanks to their legacy as one of the world’s leading artisan coffee producers, Schleicher & Hofmann Coffee Company continues to contribute importantly to the culinary community globally. The first coffee was roasted in the early 1800s by a group of farmers in the Honduran town of Chimaltenango. Coffee became popular in Europe and America as early as the 16th century, and coffee beans were brought over to Europe by Spanish traders. In 1810, Dutch traders discovered Java and began importing Coffee from Indonesia. The Dutch name for Java was "Netherlands East Indies" because it included all of Java and Sumatra, which at that time were part of Holland. By 1818, Coffee had spread to England where it was called "Arabian." The first printing press in London was published on July 24, 1755 by James Boswell with the title "A Journal Of A Journey To India".
North Lauderdale was founded as a small town in north Florida in 1868. The community grew rapidly due to its location on the banks of the St. Johns River and its access to phosphate mines. North Lauderdale quickly became a popular tourist destination, and by 1910 it had become the largest city in northwest Florida. North Lauderdale's growth slowed after World War II, but it regained some of its former prominence during the 1960s and 1970s when it became home to many high-tech businesses such as Lightyear Technology, Philips Electronics, and Atmel. In recent years, North Lauderdale has seen a resurgence in development with new hotels, restaurants, and shopping malls opening up around town. The city is also home to two large universities - University of South Florida and Jacksonville State University - which have helped contribute to its revitalization efforts.
