North Miami Beach is a city in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 66,291 as of the 2010 census. It is part of theMiami metropolitan area. North Miami Beach borders Biscayne Bay to the south and west and Fort Lauderdale to the north and east. The first Europeans to visit what is now North Miami Beach were Spanish sailors in 1513. They named it Playa de la Buena Vida (Good Life Beach). In 1763, Captains John Cook and James Cook sailed along that coast and gave it its present name of North Miami Beach after their ship "Northampton" came ashore on November 5th, 1763 at mile marker #3 on today's mainland side of Biscayne Bay. The most important early inhabitants were farmers who raised tobacco for export. Gold was discovered in 1821 but no one developed it because there was no way to transport gold from South America back to Europe without risking piracy or war with Mexico. The first post office was established in 1827 in Old Key West by Captain David Barron with a letterhead reading "Captain Barron's Key West Post Office". In 1835, large quantities of salt were brought down from Cuba by means of small boats called catamarans which transported it all the way across Lake Everglades to be sold at marketplaces in South Florida; this created great business opportunity for those who owned salt businesses such as these operators: Jardin de las Americas (the Gardens), Brownsville Canals Company (now Brown Brothers Boatbuilding), La Carreta Navigation Company (now Lighthouse Point Marina) etc.. North Miami Beach is a community located on the shore of Miami Bay in Broward County, Florida. The town was founded by white settlers in 1881 as part of the consolidation of several small villages and towns in Broward County. North Miami Beach became a municipality on March 6, 1922. On December 12, 1991, the town was renamed North Miami Beach Shores to reflect its location on theMiami-Dade county line. The name change was made after a referendum held by residents of the town. The history of North Miami Beach goes back to 1881 when white pioneers arrived in what is now North Miami Beach from Key Biscayne and other parts of South Florida. The first deed for land that would become north Miami beach noted "the tract including all that portion of *Pinecrest* lying westward from *Newport* sound." In 1902, developer Harry Wecht purchased 640 acres (246 hectares) just east of then known as Coconut Grove and developed it into what is today NorthMiamiBeach1 with homes, businesses, and a naval air station built along with tennis courts tennis clubhouse golf course soccer fields boat ramp as well as twoanking harbor which served as an anchorage for private yachts during prohibition days4. In 1922, following annexation by neighboring Dania2 through an act of Congress3 under President Warren G Harding4, NorthMiamiBeach became one municipality within Broward County5 subject to the same laws and ordinances6 governing municipalities inbrowardcounty7. As part of consolidating several smaller villages and towns8 within Broward County9 during World War I10 some homes were destroyed but most were rebuilt using materials brought over from Key Biscayne12 where many similar homes had been destroyed during fighting between American troops and local revolutionaries13 years earlier14. In 1951 newlyweds Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis15 living nearby at 5201 NW 95th Street16 moved their family into their first home here17 followed soon thereafter by her husband John F Kennedy18 who resided here until he was assassinated in 196319 leaving behind his wife Jackie20 who lived here until her death in 201621 It has been reported that she never left her home directly adjacent to this Naval Air Station even though White House staff insisted upon her doing so22 continuing a tradition established by both JFKs which apparently annoyed many inside and outside their presidential household23 This story does not end there however; Jackie also maintained close ties to this community through charity work24 primarily among low income families25 throughout much Of South Florida26 connected with services provided such as food pantries27 libraries28 schools29 daycare centers30 before ending up dying from pancreatic cancer at age 791 Aircraft hangar: NAS Miramar helped serve local aircraft interests beginning around 1945 while providing storage for various types including bombers – later converted into an airstrip capable handling jets & helicopters; originally used for storage & operations only after dismantled surplus USAAF hardware had started piling up due to closure/malfunctioning (& eventually demolition). Operated intermittently starting 1947 being used mostly for storage until 1949 when it reopened fully (in addition to still serving ASVNAF use thru 1958). The area now known as North Miami Beach was first settled by the Menchaca tribe in the late 1800s. The town of North Miami Beach emerged in 1902, and growth continued until 1945 when it was destroyed by a fire. After the fire, development slowed until the early 1970s when a new shopping mall called Boca Raton opened. This led to more growth and development, which culminated in 2000 with the opening of Coral Gables International Airport.
