The Coast Guard has been in operation in North Miami, Florida since 1921. The Coast Guard is responsible for the defense of the Miami-Dade County area and its waters. The Coast Guard also provides humanitarian assistance, assists with search and rescue missions, responds to emergencies and provides law enforcement services. In 1921, the Coast Guard Station at PortMiami was established. In 1951, a new station was built at Fort Lauderdale Beach. In 1969, a new station was built at Hollywood Pier. In 1984, another station was built at Boca Raton beach side. In 1990, a new station was built at South Beach on Miami Beach Boulevard. In 1992, a new station was Built in Plantation Marina which is now used as part of the South Beach Yacht Club’s marina complex A newstation was opened in early 1998 by President Clinton while he visited South Miami during Hurricane Andrew season The first gift from the United States Government to the Coast Guard came in 1921 when General Electric donated an engine called WPB-1 which would be used for patrol and coastal safety purposes

North Miami is a small town located in Miami-Dade County, Florida. The population was 2,098 at the 2010 census. North Miami is bordered by Biscayne Bay on the south and east, Overtown on the north, Everglades Park to the west and northwest, and Flagler Beach to the northwest. The area that now makes up North Miami was first settled by Seminole Indians in the early 1800s. The area became part of Spanish Florida during their rule over Cuba and southern Florida. After American independence from Spain was gained in 1783, land ownership began shifting from Spaniards to Americans as shotguns were taken up for sale throughout what is now North Miami-Dade County. As parts of both Floridas came under American control during the 19th century, some German settlers also moved into what are now North Miami-Dade County. During World War II there were many concentration camps set up in South America as part of Allied forces' effort to roundup Nazi war criminals before they could be deported back home to face trial or executed. Many detainees who were not immediately arrested were interned in what are today known as "Granada Hills," "Camp Taylor," and "Bataan" camps located near Lake Worth and Jupiter Island respectively. Of course these facilities weren't open to civilians; only military personnel and those with proper clearancewere allowed inside. In 1954, portions of what are now North Miami-Dade County became part ofMiami metropolitan area as a result of mergers between various cities within Greater Broward County (then includingFort Lauderdale). At that time it was still rural but rapidly becoming an urban center due largely to its position along I-95 corridor which made it easy for people commuting into downtown Ft Lauderdale/Downtown Coral Springs etc." Today much of northmiami does have some characteristics typical of inner city neighborhoods such as high crime rates (which has been lol decreasing recently), lack of job opportunities outside citylimitsremarkable poverty rates among minorities (African Americans especially), poor public schools with low graduation ratesamong other issues typically found in inner city Neighborhoods." The Coast Guard is a national service and has been providing law enforcement and public safety services on U.S. coasts since 1938. The Coast Guard's mission is to protect the nation's coastal communities and waters from crime, terrorism, environmental disasters, and other threats. The first coast guard gift was given to the Coast Guard by General John J. Pershing on December 9, 1938.
