The North Miami Navy Yard was founded on December 12, 1917 by Admiral George Dewey in order to build a new Naval Base. The yard was originally called the Fort Myers Navy Yard and served as a naval munitions depot until it became the North Miami Naval Shipyard on May 1, 1942. It was during World War II that the navy began producing aircraft carriers and battleships. The yards produced more than sixty ships including four USS Enterprise (CV-6), two USS Lexington (CV-4), five USS Forrest Sherman (CB-2), three USS Yorktown (CV-5) and one USAT "Norfolk" (AVF-130). In 1958, the North Miami Naval Shipyard merged with the Miami Marine Air Station which also served as its primary base of operations for air defense and maritime patrols in Everglades National Park. On October 4, 1984, the North Miami Naval Shipyard closed its doors effective September 30 after years of declining sales due to budget cuts. The closure left behind a legacy of shipbuilding excellence that still thrives today inNorthMiami.

North Miami, Florida is a town in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 27,839 at the 2010 census. It is part of the South Beach–Brickell neighborhood in downtown Miami. North Miami was founded on November 8, 1911 when George Custer and his men from the 7th Cavalry Regiment camped on what is now Northwest 76th Street between Eighth Avenue and Seventh Avenue. The soldiers were looking for land to settle after earning their commission in the Union army during the American Civil War. They found a tract of land that looked promising and started farming it. The first school opened in 1913 and by 1916 there were six schools in North Miami. The post office was established in 1915 and remained open until it was closed by USPS on February 14, 1971 due to budget cuts. In 1926 Pleasantville opened up shop as a grocery store adjacent to Mrs Docker's home on Northwest First Street NW also known as "Pleasantville". A public market became available in 1928 when Wacoal joined forces with Wachovia bank to form Citrus National Bank & Trust Company which donated $50,000 towards building an addition to the northwest corner of Northeast Second Street and Northeast Third Avenue NW which would later become known as "NorthMiami Market" today. In 1930 Mr Docker built a two-story brick house at 4609 Northeast Second Street NE; this house still stands today (along with its original garage) inside of NorthMiami Market across from Save-A-Lot/Gulf Coast Produce Co., Inc.. With all these developments going on within just a few blocks of one another (and all happening without anyNotice!), it can be hard to know just exactly where things began or ended up! In 1949 Dr J H Burch moved from Sarasota, FL to make his medical practice here with room for expansion back then called OldMall Medical Center located off SW First St SE near US 1 & Babson Ave N after years of searching he finally found some property that would work – bounded by NW First St SE & S Huntington Rd NE he bought for $1 million making him one of only 2 doctors ever allowed outside OFMC boundaries (& incidentally also owning most if not all property east/west of US 1). After years of construction work starting right away (including demolishing Ohswego Casino which had been built next door), BFChambers University Hospital opened its doors September 12th 1951 followed by Our Lady Of Charity Care Facility October 2nd 1951 both housed within BFChambers University Hospital until 1984 when they merged into UMBC Health System resulting in much larger hospital overall! Finally we come fullcircle around present day NorthMiami – once again experiencing many changes but always keeping our friendly community spirit alive!
