The following year saw another large gift fromthe Air Force when McDonnell Douglas donated four Cessna 182 studentflying cars to be used by USAF officers stationed at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Texas; these planes would later be used by USMC squadron Marines based at Marine Corps Base Iwakuni on Okinawa during Operation Neptune's Spear). North Palm Beach became a town on May 14, 1907. On November 3rd of that year it changed its name to North Miami after merging with Miami Lakes and Biscayne Bay Villages. On December 15th it changed its name back to North Palm Beach because so much land had been given up for the city's formation and there were already too many cities in South Florida with similar names! The city of North Miami was established on October 12th of 1935 and lasted until February 2nd of 1957 when it merged into the city of West palm beach which also included Pompano Island! On November 4th 1969 North Miami voted to become a separate city again!

As part of this annexation process, North Palm Beach lost its municipal water and electric services but gained streetlights and a library fromMiami-Dade Community Services District No. 2 (later Coral Gables/Broward County Library District). In 1933, after being unsuccessfully courted by both downtown South Miami and Boca Raton as well as Homestead Heights east of Dixie Highway (now US 1), North Palm Beach voted to become an independent city with its own government under then-Mayor Harry Calkins On December 16, 1959 the annexations intoMiami were completed when all four municipalities formed the City of Coconut Grove together with neighboring unincorporated areas including Hollywood Hills and Sunrise Gardens which had also been annexed into Miami earlier that year pursuant to amendments made to the county charter by then-Governor Claude Pepper (D). At that time Coconut Grove had a population of just over 7500 people. On December 22nd 1959 North Palm Bay voters passed a resolution ratifying incorporation without any dissenting votes; it marked the first time any incorporated municipality in Broward County had ratified itself unilaterally since 1898 when Ft Worth merged with Dallas County and became Arlington Municipal District #1
