It is bordered by Coral Gables to the north and west, Pompano Beach to the east, Boca Raton to the south and west, and West Palm Beach to the northeast. The name "north palm" comes from two local trees that grew along its bayfront: "Palm o' la Luna" (a hickory tree) and "Lavender Hill". In 1887 Charles Hirschman donated land for what would become North Palm Beach on which he built a home and other outbuildings. The first post office opened in 1907. Nordpump Ave., now part of US 1, was named after him. By 1925 over 40% of all business in North Palm Beach had been founded by Jews; it became an open-carrying city in 1933. In 1924 Isadore Strauss founded his own printing company in North Palmbo with $1,000 he won playing cards at a poker game with then-Mayor James Monell Jr.. Strauss printed magazines such as "The Sun", "The Miami Herald" and "$100 Notes from America". His printing plant survives today as TheIsadoreStraussCompanyPLC located on Memorial Drive just off I-95 near Coconut Creek Boulevard South in Jupiter Hills - across from Universal Studios Hollywood! That same year also saw another important event when Drs Irving Kupferstein & Samuel Feinberg purchased some land adjacent to their medical practice on Northwest First Street for a new hospital they planned to build there called Parkland Memorial Hospital later renamed Stonington Memorial Hospital! This would become one of South Florida's most successful medical institutions while also being home to many famous residents such as Forbes Forbes & wife Eleanor Roosevelt who established her private medical clinic there before moving back into New York City; father Joe McCarthy who served several terms as Mayor of Tampa Bay before becoming U.S Congressman from California; singer Ray Charles who lived next door for many years until his death in 2006; actor/director William Holden who filmed parts of his movie “To Rome With Love” here including shots inside Lee Harvey Oswald’s apartment – still live view TV images can be seen throughout much of Broward County today! Finally we come back to our original Pointe Claire lighthouse where house prices have increased markedly since its closure following Hurricane Irma which destroyed most if not all infrastructure including its generators making it difficult for anyone even remotely interested in restoring or reconstructing this beautiful structure currently sitting derelict outside North Palmbo limits!
