North Port, Florida is a town located in Sarasota County, Florida. The population was 12,198 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Sarasota County. North Port is known for its port and fishing industry, as well as being a center for education andolfactory research. The area that now makes up North Port was first occupied by Native Americans in the early 1800s. A ferry service connected Northport with Sarasota Bay, making it an important trading post during the 18th century. The name "Northport" originated from this location. By 1892, Northport had become a citrus orchard town; however, Prohibition stopped production in 1925 and eliminated most of the town's commercial activities. In 1933, then-Governor of Florida Alachua County Hugo Black issued an order banning racial discrimination in all public institutions statewide within three months - effective September 1st - following his election victory over Governor-elect Franklin D. Roosevelt (D). This order became known as "Black's Law". After World War II ended, many businesses closed down due to difficulties obtaining new permits to operate in Palm Beach County after the war years were completed; however, NorthPort continued to thrive thanks to its thriving seafood industry which employed around 60% of its total workforce throughout the 20th century. In 1984 local businessmen Jack Kappenberger and Herb Payne founded Gulfstream International Airlines based out of their offices on Airport Boulevard in northPort; Gulfstream quickly grew into one of America's leading airlines with more than 200 daily departures serving destinations all over the world including London Heathrow and New York JFK airports amongst others before its acquisition by Delta Air Lines on November 14th2006 For many locals who depended on oil revenue from our ports for their livelihoods it was especially devastating when news emerged that Saddam Hussein possessed chemical weapons which he could have used against us any time he wanted To make matters worse we only found out about these capabilities 3 days after they were published! North Port is a town in Broward County, Florida, United States. The population was 11,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood metropolitan area. North Port was founded on May 1, 1892 by Simeon Biddle and his family as a small farming community on the north shore of Palm Beach Bay. By 1910 it had developed into an early textile center with mills such as Biddle's mill and Henson's mill located along First Street. In 1915 North Port became a city when it annexed neighboring Pembroke Island; however, this annexation did not take place until 1926 because of objections from Pembroke Island residents who wanted to keep their island independent from SouthPort. In 1963 Northport annexed Plantation Key which comprised most of Broward County east of I-95 and south of Uptown Park; however, Plantation Key continues to be administered separately by Broward County government today. Prior to its annexation by Northport, Plantation Key was considered one of the wealthiest areas in South Florida because its landholdings included much valuable beachfront property extending into both Miami Beach and Jupiter Beach. The townsite that would become North Port was platted on October 14th, 1892 by Simeon Biddle under the name "New Hope." The name stuck for a few years until someone suggested "North Harbour" due to problems with getting boats through Clearwater Harbor which bordered Palm Beach County then known as Spanish Town (now Little Havana). On July 3rd 1905 Mayor Jno Henson submitted to commissioners an ordinance entitled "An Ordinance To Establish A Municipal Corporation And Site For A Municipal Borough Within The Limits Of The City Of Fort Lauderdale" which called for the establishment of a municipal borough – now North Port – within boundaries set forth by Commissioner James Fenton in a report entitled "Development Of Fort Lauderdale". On December 5th 1906 Commissioners voted 3-1 in favor of incorporation under Mayor Henson's ordinance setting up what would become today’s city limits with portions lying within present day unincorporated parts of Broward County including Manalapan and Weston before eventually becoming incorporated into Fort Lauderdale on January 15th 1907 as “Fort Lauderdale Township” subject to full local control under Commission Rule 2(a). While initially primarily engaged in agricultural production (the first crops grown were cotton and wheat), industry soon took over due to increased competition from other Central Floridianszonian cities such as Jacksonville and St Petersburg for workers during World War I followed later by rapid growth in automobiles manufacturing following World War II brought about unprecedented expansion in real estate development especially around State Road 95A/Uptown Park Boulevard across Sunrise Boulevard/NortheastLink Drive; all resulting major changesovergrowthLuis Valdez Boulevard inside present day city limits linking everything downtown FtLauderdale / Deerfield Village / Lauderhill etc.) making it difficult even trying track all aspects related thereto during my lifetime&far beyond since many details have been lost or hidden over time2
