The Oakland Park, Florida National Guard is one of the oldest and most veteran-owned organizations in the United States. The National Guard was first organized on July 4, 1792 as part of the militia to protect settlers in what is now Jacksonville, Florida. The Guard has been stationed in Jacksonville since 1814 when it was created as a military post to guard the area around Fort Stroudsburg. In 1917, the Guard was redesignated as an infantry regiment and activated for World War I. After serving in France and Belgium with distinction, the regiment was mustered out of service on November 3, 1918. The regiment returned to Jacksonville where it played a significant role in local politics and defense until its disbandment on September 30, 1949. The Guard re-establishes itself in Oakland Park on January 1st 1902 under command of Major General George Wickersham Jr.. It functions as an armory and barracks complex providing housing for troops and their families while also conducting gunnery training exercises at Point Comfort NRA range which is located adjacent to active duty Army Ammunition Plant #1 (now known as Southern Illinois University Carbondale). In 1945-1946, following Armistice Day celebrations that took place throughout much of America after World War II, some units from northern Florida traveled south to join others from Georgia Tech Saber Company No 5 (the "Old Soldiers" company), USMC Shoemaker Platoon M/Sgt John Sayers (later Captain) 2nd Marines Regiment 40th Infantry Division & US Air Force Fighter Squadron 106 Oakland Park's history with the National Guard goes back over two hundred years!
Oakland Park, Florida is a small town in Hillsborough County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,948 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tampa-St Petersburg-Clearwater metropolitan area. The community was founded in 1868 by J.C. Carpenter and Wm. Fenton as a trading post on the St Johns River near what is now Belle Isle. Oakland Park became an incorporated village in 1907 and then a city in 1959. In 2000, it merged with neighboring Clearwater to form the Tampa Bay Metropolitan Area Combined Statistical Area (MSA). The land that makes up today's Oakland Park was originally swampy and forested until recently when development began there for citrus farming and other commercial interests A cotton gin occupied the present site of downtown from 1865 to 1903; its first floor has been preserved as part of the building currently known as City Hall A mill built 1868 on US 41 became known as the "Carpenter Mill" after its namesake In 1907, following incorporation bylaw of Oakland Park with 439 residents, voters passed a resolution approving annexation by neighboring Clearwater into Hillsborough County In 1959, following passage of a municipal charter amendment granting city status to Oakland Park with 712 residents, it became an official city On July 1st 2000(the day before Tampa Bay Metro Areas were created), both cities amalgamated into one MSA

Oakland Park is a small town in Escambia County, Florida, United States. The population was 3,547 at the 2010 census. Oakland Park is located on U.S. Highway 301 south of Tallahassee and east of Pensacola. It is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. The first white person to live in what is now Oakland Park was John Armstrong who came over from Georgia in 1821 with his family and started a tannery there. By 1825, he had built a gristmill and outbuildings which still stand today on State Road 331 north of town limits. In 1829 Armstrong sold his tannery to Jno Purdy who kept it until 1865 when it passed into the hands of A&P Ford Co.. In 1865, A&P FordCo bought the tannery from Purdy and continued to run it as their own business until 1984 when it became an annex to Pensacola Regional Airport. In 1904, Jones Wirtz purchased land northeast of town and began building what would become Pensacola Naval Air Station (later NAS Pensacola). Wirtz hired architect Macklinore Hunt to design a new airfield that could accommodate both American military planes and civilian traffic using donated land from nearby Mobile Bayouidgee Swamp Wildlife Preserve. The first sod was cut on October 27th, 1905 by Lieutenant Commander George Cushing USNR during joint maneuvers between American naval aviation forces off NAS Pensacola and Japanese aircraft carrier "Aoba" – one of only two occasions where Navy pilots successfully engaged Japanese aircraft during World War II (the other being an interception mission against USS Enterprise on April 15th 1945). This important airfield served as homebase for American coast guard planes until 1958 when NAS Pensacola transitioned its role to that ofmarine base squadron headquarters providing commando-type operations for the Balboa Marine Base Group RCN before finally shutting down in 1992 following the end of the Cold War era In 1984, PenAir Inc., based in Daytona Beach movedNAS Pensacola's operations ashore permanently at San Pedro de la Roca Army Air Field (now Joint Forces Air Command’s Miramar Annex), moving all maintenance/support functions ashore including hangar facilities, fuel storage areas and hangars for F-14 Phantom jet fighters then under construction at MAF adjacent to NAS San Pedro de la Roca . With this move came much needed closure of NAS Pensacole which saw its last flight hours occurring on December 1st 1984 after more than 40 years! Prior thereto Antioch Technical Community College had been serving as an alternate airport offering temporary flights while FAA inspectors processed renovation plans originally slated for completion by early 1985... However due to numerous budget cuts knotch jets were never able to be stored or operated aboard NAPS until they were privatized by Mesa Airlines effective February 1st 1987 ..[1] Hillsborough County also acquired some parcels neighboring Oakland Park beginning around 1930 with holdings extending northwestward along I-95W through present day Clearwater Beach Boulevard past Belle Glade before terminating near Plantation Avenue just west OF old fairgrounds site currently known as White Sands Missile Range Gulfstream International Airport & Everglades National park although never built !! As such Oak Landed lots may have been developed prior but no documentation exists
